Rush Radio 94.5

I was in Greensboro for awhile today and listened to Rush on 94.5. Is there ANYONE advertising with them?? The whole time I heard almost nothing but advertisements for themselves or things that obviously involved 94.5 or CC in some way. I can't believe they're making much of a profit if this is how it is during the flagship show.

You know Clear Channel! They tossed WGBT under the bus to put Rush Radio on the air and must have taken a huge hit financially. The Hispanic format, as I am told, was givng them around 250 a month and they aren't doing a quarter of that now. I wonder how long George Toulas will continue to let the current management stumble through the monthly revenue reviews? There must be pictures of farm animals and young children somewhere.

I don't really recall hearing PSAs. One ad for Glenn Beck coming to town played over and over again, as well as some motivational speaker series that had 94.5 as a sponsor. Then they had long-form promos that played like ads that were for Rush, Beck, etc. Actually I can't recall hearing any promos for the new morning guy.

106.1 Rush Radio/Raleigh fills avails with self-promotion too, but they at least have plenty of ads for local businesses. 94.5 kind of sounds like a cheap knockoff of 106.1 (and I guess that's what it is).

BTW what's up with the sound quality? 94.5 sounds like a poorly processed stream while 106.1 sounds like Rush is sitting in the local studio. If you get around Burlington where you can hear both clearly, flip back and forth... there is a huge difference between 94.5 and 106.1.

Rush Radio 94.5 basically is 106.1 WRDU. They already canned their local news staff. They had people that did local news all day and they don't anymore

Hasn't the 94.5 signal always been an obstacle for anyone?
Maybe the limits on the signal affect the processing, especially where it runs out.
I remember when they were WXRA that was a problem.
Hey, I just noticed wxra945.com goes to 100.3's website. How long has WXRA been gone? That was early-internet days, wasn't it? Maybe they were going to resurrect it and needed a placeholder before Rush Radio came about?

By the time you get to western Alamance you are on the fringe of WRDU's signal too. Remember they dropped power a few years ago. You can still tell a big difference in audio quality though.

94.5's signal seemed strong to me, at least in Guilford and Alamance (we didn't go any further west than W Wendover).

There was no shortage of advertisers when they were Spanish. I still wonder how many listeners they had who would have been able to afford high-speed Internet. Although I suppose if you can, it's not that you can't understand English but that you like the music.

18-34 is the primary demo for this format, as I am told, and WGBT was in the top 2 or 3 stations in that demo. Alone comes Rush Radio and CC picked the one station it could afford to blow up and that was WBGT. The new Hispanic station owned by Norsan has not yet achieved anything close to the CC numbers of advertisers. Think they are airing the same programming as in Charlotte and since I do not speak Spanish have no idea what they are saying on the air. The Charlotte stations are just hanging on.

Personally, I think dropping LaPreciosa is going to go down as one of the dumbest moves CC ever made. That signal is not very good and it struggled through numerous formats before becoming LaPreciosa. That was the most successful format EVER on that signal. I felt like 94.5 had finally found what it was meant to be. I knew people who were selling the station and they said it was doing very well. Yup, that was a BIG FAT bonehead move! Goes to show ya what greed will do. CC thought they could make even more with Rush, but I don't think they really factored in the weakness of the signal.

???  I am beginning, actually I have always wondered, who the CockRoach is that keeps commenting on threads.. I've checked his site out and he has like 50 people that like it??? And why does he comment on the NC Board?? Just asking!  BIGAPE

Actually, this is who I meant! Sorry!

Just for the sake of hearing your opinion....If CC-GSO was to bring back La Preciosa, do you think the'll get more ratings and revenue with the Spanish programming? :-\

Yes! The Norsan Group has brought nothing to the table and the programming originates from Charlotte and is poorly done. As far as I can tell there is nothing very local about this radio station and it is most likely the same in Charlotte. A guy with a lot of money and no professional broadcaster to guide them through the media jungle. Sad!

You sure about that? I hear Demitri in the mornings with a local news guy in studio with him.
