Rush staying on WBEN...

Musta been a lot of zero's & comma's on the check. Probably the lion's share of the budget for a place like WBEN, no?

Typically a station agrees to carry a certain number of national commercials from the syndicator in exchange for the show. There was a time when there was also a cash surcharge to carry Rush, but I believe those days are over.

At least in Buffalo, and a few other Entercom markets, where else could Rush go?

Conversely, who do you get after Rush is gone? I'm no fan but the guy has his followers and has been pulling ratings for years.

I keep wondering how much longer he can last.

As long as our political system remains dysfunctional. That won't end any time soon.

Wow, seriously? We need to say a prayer for you...

The vitriol that cretins like Rush spew has helped create the current political climate. The mindless mob that follows him made him a wealthy man. His show will ultimately end. His minions will still be able to pray at the Fox News Altar and wait for the next Prince Of Lies...

I'm certainly no expert but doesn't it come down to the repeal of the fairness doctrine? Didn't that say if you presented one side of an argument you also had to present the other?

You had to offer equal time if it was requested. That didn't mean that the responder would be as effective as the original pundit. Remember Roseanne Rosanadanna?

Limbaugh is to radio what Rachel Maddow is to cable TV. Both are essentially propagandists.

I was rooting for those chest pains he had in Hawaii back in '09, but alas.....

It's not appropriate to wish death on anyone, no matter how much we disagree with their opinions or agenda.

When you see the damage one man is doing to the nation's discourse, and by way of that the nation itself, I have no guilt about doing so.

And you do realize that wishing it cannot actually cause it, right?

You'd be the first one screaming for redress if somebody posted the same thing about Rachel Maddow. Adults learn to disagree with people's politics without attacking people personally.

I realize that the sentiment is reproachable.

I am disgusted by Rachel Maddow, and all "journalists" on all sides of the dialogue who inject opinion into their writing and reporting. But I do not wish them dead or desire misfortune to befall them.

Maybe that's because I worked and owned media in a nation where journalists who did report the truth could "disappear" and have their heads tossed in their front yard weeks later. Or where guys with rifles showed up at my office and ordered us around. So threats to me are not idle words.

Or maybe because you have class and dignity, which our death-wisher sorely lacks. That's OK. It's their prerogative. They have to live with themselves.

Thank you. We have enough hate, and history teaches us that hate is a degenerative disease.

What a bunch of big babies.

A.) I made a joke about rooting for Limbaugh's chest pains.
B.) What I think about Limbaugh, including wishing he'd disappear for the good of the nation, has no actual affect on Limbaugh.
C.) Get a grip and stop taking yourselves so seriously.

Observation

Reading this thread, I can't help but recall the early years of Howard Stern in Washington, DC, when he called the airlines about airfare "from Washington National to 14th Street" following the catastrophic crash of a passenger aircraft which resulted in several deaths at the 14th Street Bridge. Stern also reveled in the misfortunes and poor health of his on-air rivals, particularly Scott Muni and Don Imus. Stern, by way of his sycophants, drove John DiBella off the air in Philadelphia and took immeasurable glee in DiBella's demise and subsequent divorce. Classy. For many years, Stern was the paragon of cutting edge humor (also known as "tasteless shtick") and the ready template for countless wannabee local FM rock shows. Arguably, Stern laid the foundation for what we see today in the political sphere, the current president being one of Stern's many and frequent callers and guests. Of course, Howard is now well-scrubbed and regarded as a premier air and television talent, even having shown a measure of compassion. So perhaps there's something to be said for rehabilitation.

Actually, Stern simply reflected the younger white male attitude at the time, which was one of "If you can't eat it, drink it, smoke it or screw it, then flip it the bird".

He was really not on enough stations in enough markets to really be the national attitude changer you ascribe to him. He was to the media what Alexandria Ocasio is to politics: a lot more noise than influence.

You did not "make a joke". You wished death upon a person.

B.) What I think about Limbaugh, including wishing he'd disappear for the good of the nation, has no actual affect on Limbaugh.

On that we agree to some extent; people "vote" for different shows and hosts via the ratings and so your dislike, were it a broad sentiment, affects what radio stations program.

C.) Get a grip and stop taking yourselves so seriously.

Death wishes are serious business. At the risk of someone invoking Godwin's Law, I will mention how channeling hatred against certain groups gave rise to the Nazi (National Socialist) party in Germany around 90 years ago.

Go back to what you do best: Analyzing Buddy's bowel movements.

Crude, irrelevant to the topic and simply an effort to distract from the fact that a death wish against another person is not appropriate. Feel free to criticize Limbaugh's content but don't repeat that kind of reprehensible thought.

When one digs themselves into a hole and can't get out, stop digging!
