Rush to Rush: Cease and Desist

RE "Can they do that successfully?"

Artists or labels own their work.
ASCAP/BMI fees stations pay compensate composers.

Talk stations' blanket "Incidential Use" license covers just-that.
Adopting-someone's-music-as-a-theme-song not covered.
(Nor, incidentally, is using-music-in-commercials, without permission, something many stations overlook.)

Didn't Chrissie-what's-her-face of "The Pretenders" do that in the 90s in an effort to stop Limbaugh from using her song as his theme song?

He pays for that.

You might remember when, several years ago, The Pretenders told him to knock-it-off, he used various-other-songs while negotiating, explaining on-air that that was the case.

How do they arrive at THAT figure?

Any idea, ballpark, what the fee is?

So soon the entire bumper music rotation will consist of Ted Nugent and the Charlie Daniels Band(unless there are other conservative rockers I don't know about)

Clear Channel syndicates Fox Sports Radio, I believe, which has JT The Brick. Hosted by John
Tournour (a conservative) with sports headlines read by Tom Looney (a liberal--insert joke
here). Every show, JT does his opening monologue then introduces the LONGTIME VOICE!
The Iconic Voice of Tom Looney... and they go into "Spirit of Radio" by Rush, the band.
(Begin the day with a friendly voice, a companion unobtrusive.) Wonder if that will
continue :)

I know radio consultant Donna Halper, who is by no means a liberal, but she helped Rush get their
start.

Oh...the BAND Rush, as she "broke them" on Cle. radio. She has been honored by the band
for this. Can Rush H. Limbaugh sue the band because he had the name first? :)

Or 39 different Public Service Announcements. Only You Can Prevent Forrest Fires!! as said by Smokey The Bear.

Actually, it's "Smokey Bear", not "Smokey The Bear".

You wouldn't say "Easter The Bunny", now would you?

I remember most of those PSAs having an announcer say or refer to the character as 'Smokey the Bear', but meh. Nitpicking.

Actually there was a rock band who was inspired by Ayn Rand. They even used her novella "Anthem" as the basis of their song 2112, their record label and a song with that title. They were thought quite right-wing at that time.

Oh, wait, that was Rush. Oopsie! :D

Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper

Alice has a wife and two daughters (in addition to a son) and is known as a socially-acceptable rocker, supporter of local charities and businessman. I don't know what his political leanings are but I am willing to bet that Limbaugh's demeaning attack upon Sandra Fluck would not impress Alice or his wife and daughters.
