Rush to WHJJ

I've heard the same rumblings....on WPRO-JD, Buddy, Dan and letting Rush go (being picked up by HJJ)

Don't know what the HJJ lineup will be

Where does this leave StPierre? Still on until 8AM? Unless I thought I read something here that I didn't DePetro was going to have to be in for the early shift.

HJJ getting Rush will be the first step towards that station getting back on track. I hope that they can build on that foundation instead of just not doing anything good the rest of the day. A station can not survive on Rush alone. But having Rush there will be a good start.

I think you are giving Rush in this area too much credit....I don't have a look at the numbers; but I NEVER hear Rush on when I am out & about...I can at times hear Rome on the Score and WEEI; but I haven't heard Rush or Helen on a radio in some establishment or on a car radio passing by in god knows how long whereas I used to hear Arlene and still can hear Dan Yorke at times while I am out.

So does this effect 102.3 WXLM in New London, another Citadel property? Or is it too far away to worry about?

Jazzy

As was already said, HJJ will have Beck, Rush and Hannity. Which means either Helen or Miller or Far early mornings. My guess is Miller. He was the early morning man at RKO. Miller was worse then Dave Barber.
HJJ will have no local talk from 10 am on. HJJ is history.

Jockitch, thats a good point.
What about Rush? Wpro is going to PUSH Rush to WHJJ. It has to happen.
What will happen to Helen Glover? I believe WHJJ must carry Hannity,
where the hell does Glover go? Figure Beck, Rush, Hannity. Thats 10 am to 6 pm!
And WPRO , by hiring one man, they made talk radio more of a NUT HOUSE than
ever before. That man, Vinny Buddy Cianci. Two time convicted felon. 2 stations
turned upside down. Good people careers messed with. WELCOME TO RADIO! Walter.

My quote days ago. Looks like I am terribly correct. Quite sad.. Walter.

Well I condider myself Liberal. You could probably say Very Liberal. But when I'm out I still listen to Rush even though he's a hardcore conservative. I like to hear his view on things. Yeah I think he's pompus and full of hot air, but I still tune in. I can't imagine that I'm the only one who does. I would like to see his ratings. They've got to be pretty good. Is there really any competition in middays? I don't think so. Especially not in Providence. My guess is that Rush will beat Buddy in the ratings. I don't think Buddy is going to have the long term appeal that WPRO expects. I anticipate Rush fans flocking over to HJJ. That's just my guess.

yup, all access says the switch is 9/20 and the 'PRO lineup is as described. Nothing yet about addition of
Rush to Clr Chnl-owned WHJJ on their site. Guessing Helen Glover's gone, or moved to weekends or
something..? unless they push her back to 3 pm and tape delay Hannity...

There is absolutely NO way that Rush beats a local format. I give Rushbo credit for pioneering the right-wing radio format. It worked when it was the only show in town. But now all recognize that he is such a blow-hard ideologue and Bushie kool-aid drinker. He has zero original thoughts. Its all fluff hyperbole blaming the Left for all the perils and continuous polarizing. People are sick of this.
There are plenty of right wing radio guys (Savage, Doyle, etc) who spew the Conservative philosophy but who also provoke critical discourse within the ideology. Rush (and Hannity) just take a particular view from the whispers of Rove and Cheney to pass out the kool-aid. Ditto to another stint in rehab while spewing out the hate-speech of the WEAKNESS of others.

Rush has probably already seen the best days of his career come and go, but......love him or hate him......he's still a valuable commodity for a station trying to do a talk format.

I used to think that the demand and appetite was out there in this market to fully support two "big-player" talkers, plus perhaps one more with a limited local line-up, heavily supplemented by bird-fed programming. I'm not sure that's the case anymore.

Now, it looks like we're going to end up with only one "big-player" talker, with WHJJ playing the role of part-time talker with lots of bird-feed the rest of the time.

Could it be that WHJJ now finds itself in the postition as the second talker in a ONE talk station town? Seems a bit similar to what 790/99.7 is facing up against 103.7.

If this "Talk Radio on the Cheap" format doesn't work, it sort of makes you wonder how long Clear Channel will hang on to 920?

Helen just announced that Rush is going to be filling her spot, but she doesn't know when she will be on yet. Will announce it as soon as she finds out.
