Rush...

Premiere has announced that they will continue with best-ofs for 90s days, with selected guest hosts.

Stations have affiliation contracts. I'm sure they've all looked them over and had discussions about their options.

The affiliates are obligated to run the spots for the term of their contract, unless they have an opt-out.

I'm sure the powers that be at Entercom have had this discussion. I doubt very much they will continue with an iHeart show. They have lots of in-house hosts. They might pick one from one of their major markets and syndicate him, or leave it to the local station.

Tim Wenger is talking about this with Bauerle - he isn’t ruling out a local show.

If I was Tim, I'd want to go local, assuming he can find a way to retain the audience. One way might be to start transitioning your new guy with the Rush best-ofs for a while, so people get comfortable with the change. It would be a mistake to go cold turkey. The talk audience wants to feel comfortable. Tim knows this because he just went through it with Sandy Beach. But this time he's integrating with a national show.

They could just run Rush Repeats permanently. The audience wouldn't know the difference or would like it. Classic Rock stations play the same 200 songs on shuffle. There's no NEW audience available for Right Wing Talk, so reruns of Rush might be their best (and cheapest) option...

As the person who signed the contract to carry Rush before he had even 100 affiliates, I can say that the interest in the show was equally divided between Rush's personality and style and the topical, live, immediate content.

Yes, the show can cover for a short period with the most interesting and still-relevant pieces from the show, but it has to move on eventually.

Trying to make independents and conservatives seem uneducated is not a way to answer this question.

I may still enjoy hearing "Brown Eyed Girl" on a gold-based station, but I don't want to hear same-day commentary about the 2016 election over 4 years later. Songs are made to be heard over and over; news items are not.

Where is the proof that Limbaugh is dead?
Isn't it just a Liberal lie?

Obviously, many people found his "Schtick" entertaining. That doesn't excuse his propaganda and outright lies. Now he's dead. They can "move on" as you say right now. No need to run repeats at all...

Maybe Rush is not dead, but working with trump to fight satan-worshipping Hollywood elites who drink children's blood.

You just identified the reason why AIr America and individual liberal talk hosts have failed: "entertaining".

Rush could talk about subjects I was not interested in, but the way he presented things was interesting and entertaining. He was not lecturing... he was doing an old Top 40 morning show with current events as the one-liners instead of "the chicken walked into the bar and..."

Rush's show, above all else, was entertaining and fun to listen to. Talk shows that fail forget that aspect of the craft. I've programmed a few talk station... well, more than a few... and the main thing I look for in talent is fun and excitement. if I sense the person thinks they are the salvation for modern political conflicts, they don't get to meet Mr. Microphone.

Many people find "Torture Porn" or "Snuff Films" entertaining. There's all kinds of twisted S*** available.

Limbaugh does not deserve praise. His broadcast history was filled with bigotry, vitriol, hate, and lies. He deliberately took that path because it worked and made him extremely rich. The people who listened to him are equally responsible for the political climate. They cannot discern the difference between "Entertainment" and reality. Limbaugh was able to con his gullible base into believing his political rhetoric. Trump & Rush are two sides of the same counterfeit coin...

I found Rush to be about as entertaining as acid. Funny how he would discredit the media. Didn't he ever realize he too was a part of the media he was discrediting? Duh, a joke P.T. Barnum was correct!

No other radio talk show host in America ridiculed and made fun of gays, women, the poor, immigrants, people of color and people with disabilities better than "America's Anchorman." Talent on loan from God. But yeah... he was an entertainer and fun to listen to.

To quote another noted poster on these boards, "Do I really need the sarcasm tag?"

As for WHAM and WBEN. What choices do they have? Local seems the most logical path.

Of course Limbaugh knew that. He also knew the majority of his audience would never make that connection. Like trump, he knows who he's talking to.
