Rush's beginning of the end

Let me preface, this Tampa Boy has been a fan of ElRushBo since Reagan was in office. Two if By Tea is the beginning of the end. He is literally doing full 12 minute breaks promoting this product, Monday 7/5 "looking back at Joplin's 4th Celebration with a Truck Load of Two if By Tea." It was an InfoMercial painted Red White and Blue, plus Black for the short lived profit.
Listeners call in telling him how wonderful it is. It is taking over his show! Never has he had more on the Dems than he does now. He missed the Carter Debacle by 6 or 7 years.
Rush needs to stop all the sneaked in endorsements like Life Lock or whatever it's called and especially the self promoting Two if By Tea. That's not why we are coming to you buddy. Go back to your 60 second endorsements played in your breaks. Do your job Mr. Snerdely and ring him in, before your audience is gone. This ain't the year for the Great One to lose his base. Keep commercials out of your Monologue Sir!

As pathetic as it sounds, Rush can do or say anything he wants, and many of his listeners will give him a pass. Things that should've hurt him in the past, never really did. This certainly won't. After all, what's not to like about iced tea!

Rush Limbaugh has become Hank Kingsley.

Because, when I am thirsty, I order overpriced tea and wait 2 weeks for it to be delivered....

I truly believe this is the beginning of the end for Rush Limbaugh.

It has to happen sometime for everybody in the biz. Some enjoy careers that last 50 years or more (and God love 'em all), others barely make it past their first air shift. And I think the time has come for Limbaugh. And seeing the news these days, the same old tired talking points don't seem to work anymore

But today, with the economy numbers crunched to the point we actually have to decide between Social Security (which MANY Limbaugh fans live off of - ironically) and paying our debts to other nations, senior citizens are SERIOUSLY starting to figure out a few things about Limbaugh.....and they don't like it.

Ideology? Or what's best for the PEOPLE of America?

What's best for the people often wins in the court of public opinion........

My point is the beginning of the end can be prevented if someone reels in Rush's Sales Department. His content is still dead center and he is right. He needs to relegate 2 if by Tea to a recorded spot in his break and quit sneaking in the other endorsements in his monologue. And some legends run never ended til they were ready: Carson, Gleason, Cronkite, Seinfeld. But you are correct, most end when we the people are ready! Hate to see that happen to Rush!

And his content is always right. That about sums it up.

I think all of his non CC affiliates should charge him top of the card for this selfish promotion of a cheezy product. This is blatant promotion at its finest.

Let's not forget about El-Rushbo's greatest weakness, the delivery system AM radio. Twenty years ago he pretty much saved AM radio by attracting listeners back to the band. Today, those 18-54 men are now twenty years older and no longer desired by ad agencies.

Let's not forget about El-Rushbo's great strengths ... an 8-year contract with five years to go worth $400,000,000.

That will keep him strong for quite awhile.

Ergo, why many of his affiliates are simulcasting on FM (ex., WIOD/Miami, KEX/Portland, KMBZ/Kansas City, WGY/Albany, WSYR/Syracuse, KXNT/Las Vegas), moved to the FM dial entirely (ex., WERC/Brimingham, WIBC/Indianapolis), or lost the show onto upstart CC-owned FM talkers, even some with the "Rush Radio" brand (ex., WPGB/Pittsburgh, WRDU/Raleigh, WRNO/New Orleans).

His show has always contained a fair amount of promotion. In the early 90s it was Snapple, another bottled tea. I see no real change here nor do I see him going anywhere. If it's the end of anything, it's the end of the beginning. He easily has 20 years on the air left as long as he remains healthy.

Snapple was totally different, he didn't own it, just endorsed it within his recorded stop sets. He may have made it part of his live segment when he first started to welcome them. I hope you are right about Two if By Tea not hurting him. Been listening since he was first on in Florida.

I don't think the heat index thing is a government "conspiracy" , but I do agree with Rush on the main point that this "how it really feels" quackery is a bunch of bunk, designed to make things seem worse then they are, which makes for better "copy". The people who do this know that many people half-listen to what's on-air, and many will hear the big 116 degrees over everything else, and won't "hear" or remember that this is not the actual temperature.

Thus...

Which, obviously, is the intent.
The health consequence of the "real-feel" temperature is more pertinent than what-the-thermometer-says.
Useful "take-home pay" I heard in a WRVA/Richmond interview yesterday, regarding Heat Stroke:
When you STOP sweating, it's a life-threatening emergency.

Yes....the heat index is a insidious left-wing, pinko, government conspiracy. Why, all of you've gotta do is look at those socialists in Canada and their "Humidex". Hah! And they take it a step further by giving the temperature in Celsius! Is that what's coming next???

And just wait 'til we get to winter and all those lefty weatherpeople start scaring us with their wind chill readings! Yikes!!!

Look....I'm a political independent and have a history of listening to and admiring Rush Limbaugh's work. I think he's made a lot of great points in our political discourse. But lately, I find him more and more "out there". I'm unclear whether he actually believes some of this nonsense, or if some of his more absurd behavior is purely theatre to keep/attract/pander to his audience.

Never forget: It's A SHOW. And never-forget includes YOU Rush.

Disclaimer: I've not met Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.
I do know Sean Hannity, one affable chap who's been extremely helpful and supportive of my affiliated client stations.
That said...

I believe that Sean Hannity believes what-we-hear-him-say.

I believe that Rush believes much-of what-we-hear-him-say. But it's A SHOW. He's a disc jockey, a gifted one. His narrative is SOURCE MATERIAL, "playing the hits." Lately, he seems to forget that. 'Actually seems to think he's influencing public policy...though the candidates he damns get elected and those he endorses don't (the gag being "Rush couldn't deliver a pizza"). But it's effective radio, especially in diary markets where name recognition mitigates the blah-blah-blah factor that's now punishing Limbaugh in PPM markets.

I don't believe Glenn Beck believes anything. It's ALL a show, and all-about-money. And keep-an-eye-on Beck, who's about to show us an innovative new business model for MAKING MONEY self-publishing online. Everybody thinks Beck is crazy, but nobody's calling him stupid.

There are only two "Great Ones".

In hockey it is Wayne Gretzky.

In entertainment it is Jackie Gleason.

+1. Great Point.

And to Holland, great point as well. I've long pointed out to the Rush fan club members that I know that Rush's job essentially the same as David Letterman's, Howard Stern's, Keith Olbermann's, or any other TV or radio host. Attract as much audience and advertising revenue as possible. Period. Problem as I see it is that a lot of his listeners/followers...probably the vast majority....don't realize that. They think the guy's an enlightened guru of some sort. He's not.

Same could be said about just about any of the political talkers on both sides of the spectrum.

I also agree that Hannity comes off as the most sincere of the the right-wing talkers. I'm an admirer of his work, as well. And, in fact, I've long held him in higher regard than Rush.

In agreement on Gleason, How Sweet It Is! And Away We Go!!! Wayne who? My Florida brain can not put Hockey and Great in the same sentence!
