Rusillo...WEEI ratings

"WEEI will say, “Look at our ratings.” Yes they are great, but if they are great based on content, not personalities, why was Ted Sarandis let go -- his ratings were great. But I assume he is gone because his show wasn’t exactly what they were looking for. Adams will step right in and get the same great ratings. Why? Because people in Boston love sports -- plain and simple. It is all right to admit it. They would also love sports on another station if it had a great signal and the Red Sox, and the critics gave it 14 years to compete." Ryen R.
I'd have to agree. WEEI personalities are fungible. They have the RedSox,Bill Belischek, and a great FM sound: that's about all you need. Sarandis got great ratings but really,he was of no value. He was a sour apple and didn't dig the Bosox. Anybody would do well in that spot. Would Larry Johnson and M.Felger do as well as Dennis&Callaghan? Yeah, I'd have to say so. It's a formula station, personalities don't mean much.

Who is this Rotillo, Resundo guy anyway? LOL

I miss the Diehards, I was glad to see him co-hosting New Englad Sports Tongiht the other day

I have to respectfully disagree. The thing that makes WEEI a TOP rated station overall is the fact that there is SO MUCH personality. Sports is a niche market in this country, in Boston and Providence it's at the top. It can't just be the fact that people love the Red Sox, and Patriots. You can't get those numbers on sports alone.

This is true...

Mornings:
Ignornat Republican Homophobes with a spoiled whiny entitled flash boy

Mid-days:
A guy who probably had a number of "kick me" signs put on him in school and a Mack Daddy. With a 7 day a week working flash guy

Afternoons:
A great funny host surrounded by an overly annoying, inarticulate, tough behind the mic but not in person, flash guy,

Nights:
THE FANTASTIC MIKE ADAMS!!!!!!!!! And I can take John Rish, John Ryder, Jeff Joyce, Bob Leone....whichever one is on.

BTW, what ever happened to John McCarthy????

The real reason for WEEI-850's success is two words: Red Sox.

When did Russillo say that? In an article?

true.. the hot national story is the death of Tony Dungy's son but you hardly hear about it on WEEI.. it's all Sox, even in late December, with a little Pats thrown in around game time..

I agree--not just the highest radio sports station in the US but #1 in the past
few ratings periods (12 +) in all of Boston. The various hosts are a big part of
it. BTW, wondering what will get higher ratings at night, the Celts on 'RKO
or Planet Mikey? Am guessing it's the latter (Celtics might do OK but local
sports talk even more so).

Rusillo, Rodillo, whatever his name is, was linked to that memorable John
Dennis phone message earlier this year of course.
______________

Ignornat--new word or simply transposition while typing? That's OK, happens
to me, too. As Menino might put it, I'm Not a Fancy Typist/Talkah... :)

I work nights so I usually wake up after their show is over. Not missing too
much I'd guess...

Agreed.

As a kind of "South Park Conservative" (not beholden to any party, technically;
would be equally comfortable with Weld or Lieberman) I'll say I don't agree
with everything "conservatives" say/believe. (hint to those who hate junk mail:
don't sign up as a Republican or Democrat. be unenrolled and hopefully it'll
cut down on politically oriented stuff showing up in your mailbox or
emailbox!
______________

talked about quite heavily on JT's show last night (but that's not local
stuff)

whoops! LOL

> I will concur with those that say the personalities are the difference makers on WEEI. This week with all the regulars taking time off, the station doesn't have to resort to "best of" shows. They have so many guys like Larry Johnson, Steve Buckley, Tony Maz, etc. that are regular side kicks and can be used as interchangeable parts to fill in. You have to give credit to the pd, Jason Wolf who has done a great job at meshing the personalities. Case in point: loose Bob Neumier and gain a Michael Holley who has improved greatly since coming on board full time.
EEI will have big time challenges should they loose the sox, but that's a whole other topic of discussion.

If they lose the Red Sox radio rights they will be scrambling for material...their Patriots Monday programming not withstanding, they have one guy who can talk hockey (Arnold - and not just Bruins either), and Big-O's hoops diatribe is strictly stuck in Antwoine Walker-era Celtics. That's it. The morning show would sink faster than a stone.

ESPN Boston can't ramp up fast enough for me...
______________
