Russ Martin Band at Coach Joe's

Russ was welcomed by a deafening standing ovation for three minutes at least when took the stage. There were close to three hundred patrons present SRO. Russ looked great and sounded great! Band was bada**!!! Black Eddie was AWESOME!!! Russ made a point to mention JD Ryan did not care about the cause or the listener's since JD did not show. Clo was there only in the way Clo can be anywhere. Russ made a toast to the crowd and said " on my show I have always said I do not care what the listeners think-I do- and thank you for your support for the last eight years". He also referred to us as "listeners" and not "fans" as he stated " I have a problem with word "fan". A chant of F**K the FAN started in the bar overtook the crowd. They did three great sets over two hours total. Russ mix and mingled with the patrons during the two breaks. I felt as though I was witnessing an end of an era for Dallas radio...WE hope not BossMan. We have your back. We proved it tonight.

Good riddance. 300 people? I thought Mr. #1 in tsl would have 3000 minimum.

Let's see....at a bar.....300 people....Standing Room Only. It isn't like he was at Nokia Theater. I would say it was a great crowd given the venue. But then again what do I know?
 
I actually attended this event, and it was pitiful. For the first time i felt sorry for the guy. When he walked in and started tuning his Guitar, nobody stood up, or screamed his name. Clo was wandering around with this stupid cowboy hat, His laughs took down the radio show. Black Eddie was good, really good. And funny as well. He [Russ] did mingl with the crowd, which was good. Made him more personable that his whole radio Persona. I left half way during the show, so i didn't know what else happened.

300 people on a Friday night at a bar? For someone claiming to be #1 in the ratings? After weeks of promotion, plus the added hype of being pulled off the air and driving people to his web site to see the ad for his appearance? Are you kidding? There would be a great crowd on any Friday night with a band, so what did he bring in - maybe 100 people at the most? This is hardly a success for RM.

300 people ain't gonna get him back on the air in Dallas. He's done...for a while at least. And taking a jab at JD like that. Low class. JD just lost his job and he doesn't have the money Russ has. He's probably got more important things on his mind.

Nah, but I had free water and inexpensive eggnog. Wifet says we had 311 actual, not including kids. One elderly gentleman asked if we were having one again next week, thus I count that as a sort of encore save for the fact I don't want Russ doing a drive-by on mi casa.
 
Please keep in mind there is an MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY LEVEL that had to be observed at Coach Joe's. The place was at capacity. Also as much as everyone wants to rag on Russ this was an event that the $10 cover charge from each patron and the donations from the sponsors Coach Joe's, Toyota and Budweiser were given to the injured police officer and his family. This show was not about Russ it was about supporting a larger cause.
 
This just proves my point, that Russ Martin had no class and will never be back on the air in this market again. CBS might also find a way not to pay the rest of his contract. Then he might have to get a real job. So Sad!!!!
 
Boy some of you people just don't know when to stop...the man showed up to play in his band to benefit those who have fallen in the line of duty to protect you and yours. And all some of you can say is that he didn't attract enough people??? At least when he was on the air all of the people on this forum spewing venom could hide behind the cloak that they were "appalled" by the lack of "quality radio" the RMS provided. Now what is it? I have asked the question before, but why is it that some of you just can't let some of us like the RMS? I mean, we will whether YOU want us to or not...but the constant whining and hatred that comes from some of your posts is really borderline obsessive. I mean really, we are going to besmirch the fact that his band ONLY raised $3000 in cover charges for Police and Fire? Or what about the donations from the sponsors...can we bag on him for not getting enough there as well? And he mingled with the crowd? I thought he was way too big of a D**k to do something like that...probably just cause he's been humbled...right? The bottom line is that the majority of you that post on this board just can't stand the fact that there might be some of us who like the show and appreciated the ancillary benefits it brought to the community (like it or not it did).

Oh and just because I know its coming...yes I am aware that opinions are allowed on this site and even that that's what this discussion board is for...but that does go both ways, even when **shock** someone likes the RMS... :eek:

News flash for you- There is nothing to "like". There is no Russ Martin Show anymore. CBS took care of that.

Mr. Martin played at a charity event? Big deal.......lots of people give to charities. Telling everyone repeatedly that you support a cause sounds more like self-promotion than an altruistic move.

get a grip this was advertised before Russ was let go. all you haters are drinking from the pitcher of kool-aid. it supported police and firefighters. if you do not have something nice to say just dont say it . ::)
 
@ Tah...you're right if one were going to do a concert to benefit fallen police and fire it WOULD be best NOT to tell anyone, probably raise more money that way...good point ;)

If you honestly believe that Mr. Martin supports fallen police and fire officers for the greater good of those officers' families, that's just wonderful for you. On other hand, the more cynical of us might think that Mr. Martin could give part of his annual million to charity in a less self-centered, less public way.

Besides, if he's just doing the benefit for the charity, what purpose does it serve to dig at JD and KLLI? I suppose those little moments really make you want to open up your wallet and toss another ten in the pile for the cause, huh?
