Russ Martin MIA?

Yes Russ is a "Joker" - but when it comes down to ratings and $$ I don't see Management letting something that is just a prank run this to this length.

Risking - (what there is) ratings, advertisers twitching, and jacking with a Brand that has had published reports of its extinction - all for the sake of "messing with Cumulus" ?

Just the web redirect up for a couple of days was enough to send a message to Cumulus. The thought that now RMS is part of the stunt is, not likely. Cumulus probably said "Bring It" - Clear Channel probably already has a pelt in a box with some horns through it, waiting to send the Dickies.

The last time he did something like this, it was on 100.3 and look what happen to that station. It flipped to JACK.

Um, Bossman was never on 100.3. I was working in the John Carpenter building when Jack FM went live and Russ was doin his show on Live 105.3.

So, wth are you talking about. Oh wait, you just hate Russ but dont have a clue what stations he's been on.

I can't say I'll miss him. It has been nice hearing Cindy and music in the morning.

Mornings was not the place for RMS, first off. His is/was in current form an afternoon or evening show. I used to listen to Russ in the afternoons on 105.3 when he had a real radio slot to play with for 4 hours and that was something very different from a formulated morning gig. It was great. Now, just programmed and radio college taught schlock.

It has been nice hearing real rock in the morning commute. Cindy is more than enough and great.

Something is going on at 97.1........flip, line-up changes, other things which don't seem to add up. I'm no radio industry veteran but I am an itinerant radio listener. If this is a "flip" it seems different from so many I've been ear-witness to. Maybe it's just me.

Humor me here, but many references are made to the potential changes "across the way" with 96.3 and 99.5 and the possible format change at 97.1 is framed as a response to them. Is there some worry that either will drop country for rock/alternative and thus the change 97.1 to slip easily into the perceived loss? Help me here.....is there an equal worry that either will flip rock/alternative?

I totally understand that radio programming is insane and nonsensical. Is the "management" idea here to flip country and hope to glum up a few extra listeners with 97.1 while expecting one of the competitors to take up your previous format? Or does current KEGL leadership think there aren't enough "young" Country stations around to supply the demand? Does the Edge become the rock/alternative station and leave the others to the AC/HipHop/soft rock style? Do they turn the dial up and get harder?

This town needs another Hip-Hop and/or country station like a tumor. Completely not needed. Why then?

Apparently you're forgetting that Russ did a morning show that aired on 100.3 as an April Fool's Day prank back in 2004. That one-shot broadcast happened three months before the switch to Jack.

Some things Up? Not only is 97.1 no longer running russ ads but the facebook posts from dan and clo has disappeared and trey.
nothing being posted. this could be the end again. bummer

I just heard a Frankel and Frankel commercial by Russ today. Maybe that was a mistake to have that go over the air.

Maybe this should be in a different thread, but The Eagle sounds a bit different to me. I realize they have a new voice guy for imaging but the music sets sound a bit different than they have been. This could be my imagination? Is it?

Heard that too. Russ and RMS are still linked to on the KEGL website. Typing "97.1 the Bull" into Google only returns references to the talk, not the KEGL website.

KEGL is still, marketing and website, connected to rock and RMS. They have Eagle promotions for events running through October 26.

?????

CC never planned to flip the Eagle. This is all just mind-games to make Cumulus/Citadel think about what they're doing. there's been a lot of chatter about flipping KSCS because people who don't really understand radio can't wrap their heads around 1 company having 2 stations with the same format in the same market. So they think that Cumulus will flip 96.3. And since 93.3 is doing so well (10th highest cume in the market, top 15 6+, gaining on KISS, etc, why not move 93.3 to 96.3, giving them a much better signal?

Clear Channel is sending the signal that if you go after us on our cash cow (Kiss) we'll be more than happy to go after your cash cow (KPLX) with our underperforming Eagle, transforming it into a "Bull".

Think about it, if this was really a format change, could it have been handled any worse? A new website that redirects to the current station? Why not just keep the website offline and have a 404 'page not found' until you're ready to go live?

This station can handle 2 full market country stations (plus all the other partials- the Range, the Ranch, etc) I doubt highly that Cumulus will flip KSCS. But if they're thinking about it, CC is signalling their willingness to fight Cumulus for those millions of dollars that KSCS bills.

So... Does that mean that CC will let "The Eagle" just continue to slide? that format does nto sell anymore. There are only so mnay strip clubs to can sell to. Advertisers do not want that demo. Maybe 97.1 is a tax write off for them.

Russ will be back Wednesday I heard

Kinda had a feeling this was nothing more than a publicity stunt to get people to tune in... How lame. So, TMZ will be back Wednesday huh? ::)

What a jackass, huh?

Or Not a "stunt". PPM measures Wednesday to Tuesday as it's week(correct<?>). When RMS goes on vacation they play BEST OF and essentially have just as much chatter on the air as if they were doing the show live.

This past Wed to Tues - was music.

The first weekly of the Oct monthly may hold some critical information as to future considerations for KEGL. just a thought. :-X

Apparently you dont know how irrelevant a one day stunt on a sister station is compared to being on a station for and entire book. You fail with your point.

I wasn't trying to make a point. It was simply an observation.

Is Russ coming back? Cindy Scull told me he back today, sounds like he's not.
