Russ Martin- When Humor turns to stalking?

Russ Martin at 105.3 has hit new lows with his largely unentertaining show. When in doubt, get attention by mocking a deadly disease, when you still arent getting ratings, send listeners to perform sickening stunts.

Tony "Magoo" Mirusso. Broadcast legend, Vietnam Veteran, Cancer survivor and top FM Afternoon drive host in Dallas has now become the latest victim of Russ Martin's attention schemes.

Martin's daily onslaughts on Magoo and other cancer patients came to a sickening apex this Friday when Russ delivered a Christmas tree filled with dead fish, cigarettes and alcohol to a CHARITY apearence for KZPS Friday evening.

Russ Martin, who finds told people on the air that he would like to grab cancer patients to see how their growths must feel like "Crushed tomatoes" has jamed the home phone lines of the Mirusso family, and most recently has had his listeners jam Email, Fax and Phone for KZPS.

The question becomes, where does being a "shock jock" end, and criminal mischief begin?

That is pretty despicable...Now I don't know if Magoo is a legend...and I don't think he is a "top" FM afternoon drive host...as I really can't stand his on air persona...how many times can he say "uh" in a sentence? Nonetheless Russ Martin's antics have hit an all time low...You would think Russ could find something a little more newsworthy or interesting than to bash people that have dealt with Cancer...
______________

If it's true he said it, He should apologize, otherwise it will only get worse.
Talking sex and horsing around is one thing, making fun of a person suffering from Cancer is another.

I remember when Barry Kaye at KILT in Houston called cancer patients at a hospital and belittled them. Bill Young the pd was fishing on the lake and heard Barry do the bit, he immediately suspended Barry.

Russ Martin has gone too far

Jim is exactly right.

Martin pushed the limits ... his freedom ... and crossed the line.

Maybe he will realize it and apologize.

If not, he can be replaced.

Russ, good grief. Are trying to "out Stern"Stern?have you ever seen a family literally shrivel up before your eyes with that damn disease? Have you ever seen a childlaughing, full of hope ,die the next day due to cancer? I have you moron, too many damn times. If you wanted attention so people will talk about you again, well jackass you got your wish.Pretty pathetic,if you feel you were being funny with your bit. Where did you grow that idea? Oh you're sitting on it.You have jumped the shark Russ. Your humor is not funny anymore and you're desperate for attention,by doing what you did. I don't care for Magoo on the air,but I have respect for him not only as a Vietnam vet but as a cancer survivor too. You ever stop to think ( impossible I am sure in your present state) that he may havce gotten his cancer from Agent Orange? A defoiliant they used in Vietnam? No, Of course not you laugh while someone at this moment (as you may or may not read this )is dying of cancer, and the chances are it is a child or a vet who defended your butt in conflict. You should come off your bathroom throne and apologize on the air. You won't,because you are too arrogant to admit it.

And management won't force the issue, either, as long as RMS pulls in advertisers who are trying to reach the mullet audience. Having been in the market for a little over a year and having been in broadcasting for 20, for me Free 105 sucks. Take your pick: RMS, P&K, D&T...all crap because all they talk about are the girls they've screwed, toilet humor and picking on management. In case you boys and girls haven't heard, Stern did that stuff for years and it ain't new. And, you've got nothing to add, save for picking on cancer patients...and didn't Stern do that with the FCC chair a few years back.
Pathetic radio.

Most on-air hosts are invited into listeners' homes as gracious guests. RM kicks down the door and rushes in to take a dump on the carpet.

>Having been in the market for a little over a year and having been in >broadcasting for 20...

The culmination of your 20 year career is a bad radio gig in Dallas? I guess you really do have it all figured out (he said with a serving of disgusted sarcasm). I got some advice for you, Newsboy: check the ratings, then leave town.

oh please...

Yeah, because you have absolutely no choice but to listen to 105.3 between 3 and 7pm, right? Mr. Martin holds a gun to your head and forces you to listen?

Some of you need to get over yourselves...
______________

PUH-LEEZ!

Have none of you ever heard of a BIT? C'mon!

First, Mr Magoo started it. I stood up for him when he first came to town (when many of you hypocrites were slamming him), but the moment he said he was going to "bury" the RMS, he threw down the gauntlet for Jock Battle.

Some of you older types remember Jock Battles, right? Even me, being the young pup that I am, remember the rivalries of Y95 and Eagle 97. I remember hearing of appearances where rival stations would show up and shaving foam the jocks.

Second, how much of any of this did you hear on the air? All of it, or none of it? Did you even hear any of the show at all, or are you repeating something that someone else told you? Keep in mind that anything you hear on the air is part of A FREAKIN' SHOW! IT'S ENTERTAINMENT! IT'S PROBABLY NOT REAL!

Third, and most importantly, if there was a problem with anything that Mr. Martin does, it will reflect in the ratings, yes? Free market economy, right?

Oh, and if it's entertainment, it would take a helluva stunt to become criminal mischief, no matter what any of you think. I'm talkin' "someone dies" kinda huge. Some of you think that if someone hurts your feelings that they need to be locked up for emotional assault... and that just ain't the case, kids.
______________

Bingo:
I enjoy most of what you have posted before ,but this time we disagree. "jock Battles" were funny, creative, and did not invoke harm or made reference to someone with a disease,a disease that kills slowly and painfully.

We can only hope, but in this age of "insensitivity" with Video games, hip hop lyrics, etc,I doubt it much to my regret.

Pranks are one thing and if Magoo did throw the gauntlet down, so be it,but pranks can be done in better taste than a charity event or children's play.
Russ is back to wanting to be the talk of conversations again, and he succeeded once more, but his sensitivity needs an overhaul. Lastly I did state I don't care for Magoo on the air,so I am not a hypocrite in that regard.I respect him as a Vietnam vet and a Cancer survivor.

I agree with Bingo

I agree, a person would think that some people here own radios with a broken tuner knob stuck on 105.3 & no off switch , and it's just driving them crazy that they can't find the power cord to pull it out of the wall socket. What's next, will they be driven over the edge & take a baseball bat to the radio to try & stop the RMS sound coming out of it because it JUST WONT STOP!!! ARGH!!(LOL)

I find it funny that some will tune into the RMS show (or any show) when THEY decide the subject is funny to them, BUT if Russ then hits a nerve that concerns THEM directly then it's suddenly time to be politically correct, and say "how DARE he say blah, blah, blah about blah, blah!" (insert topic of your choice).

Come on now, as said before, it's a SHOW. Can you say "bit"? Sure you can.

Remember

As said by Don Wade at WLS Chicago many years ago:

"if you don't like what you hear on the radio, turn the
thing off".

Luckily, Dallas/Ft. Worth has alot of signals.
Russ isn't on the only one. Tell your friends.

I worked with Russ for a short time many years ago.
He has changed a bit since I knew him back then.

This is all very simple guys. Russ was a music jock going NOWHERE and making NOTHING when he was also running Stern's board in the early 90's. To his credit, he was smart enough to take in every aspect of Stern's act in the event he got a shot at doing it on a local level. Just because Russ went to high school here and can relate to local stuff doesn't make him any pioneer. Every payday he picks up that fat check, he should thank Howard Stern on the air. He stole the act. Period. Is that OK? Sure! Why not? He even became an ass and treats the little people like crap like Stern. (just ask the people at Infinity. He doesn't even look in their direction). It's too bad he has become a jerk over the years, however, when you make that kind of money and management kisses your ass every day, (the Kraddick Syndrome) sometimes these things happen. Let's put his ego aside and all the stupid, mindless, 12-year-old-little-boy-crap he talks about every day and let's put it this way. He found a way to steal a fortune from the industry that treats most air talent with no respect and no real money. Congratulations Russ. Enjoy the dough, the house, and that imitation Batmobile. The caped crusader would be proud. Now how 'bout working on being a nicer guy. Even Stern is doing that much these days.

Taking a "BIT" outside of 3pm-7pm

Russ Martin is going BEYOND the limits of his airshift. Sending dead fish stuffed with cigarettes to a rival DJ's home????

Showing up at Station Charity functions (ie Toys for Tots) with signs that say "Cancer: You've earned it!"

Even STERN had decency. This guy takes it BEYOND the airwaves.

Operation Kindness???Please

I didn't hear this so this is hearsay - but my understanding was that Mr. Magoo made some statement about when he beats RM in the ratings he would send him a dead fish. I learned early in life that if you throw the first punch you never know with what you might get hit. Perhaps Magoo needs to learn that "if you're dumb enough to get into a fight, be dumb enough to win it." Just my thoughts Mrs. Magoo.

You have made several good points. As for the defenders of Russ, yeah one could change the dial position or simply turn it off, however what he did was not on the air in the material sense.Going to a "Toys for Tots" event and disrupting it to a degree, then calling it a "bit" shows a complete lack of class. What is he going to do next?Appear at Troy Dungans'Santas Helpers and pee on his bow tie?
Face it Russ has peaked. When he involves children, especially at Christmas time, for one of his attention getting bits that is depraved,he crossed the line. It's one he couldn't even crawl back to. DJ rivalry is one thing, but going to the other person's home( which is suppose to be private by the way) and doing things like some 14 year old "D"student freshman in High school would do,shows he has ran out of ideas to TRY and be entertaining. He wants everyone to talk about him. He wants to be the centerpiece of the conversation and he got it. Now Infinity needs to grow some sacks and rein him in,before he reaches the next level of his depravity, causing problems for the company. It would be nice if this really got out to the public, on top of the Children's play incident a couple of weeks ago,and sponsors either pulled or didn't renew their spots. MMMMMMM.

First off, I do commend magoo for having the balls to say what he said about beating RM...second off it will never happen...third...he said he would send him a dead fish, so what, did he actually do anything?...Russ went too far sending a dead fish and poking fun at such a deadly disease...especially to a charity function...any jock, station, or company should have enough respect for other stations charity work not to get involved...no matter what the bit might be...Russ is number one because there are people who like him...his number one status should be enough ....Russ, you need to get some class and let your ratings do the talking
______________

PAH-LEEZE!!!! Magoo was talking trash about Russ at the November race at Texas Motor Speedway, which is a 105.3 broadcast. Several stations work with TMS and all are supposed to play nice. Russ called him on the air to have him clarify his comments. Magoo refused to engage, hung up, and refused subsequent calls. You call that BALLS??????? That sounds more like estrogen based parts to me. Besides, who hasn’t heard that JD is coming back to punk Magoo. Did he sell the house in Buffalo yet?

That kind of thing is even low for RMS. Sure,Howie did stunts like that in the past, but he realized that (with age,maturity,ect..) that you have to handle up on your scene eventually. I have a feeling Infinity is going to grow a sack post stern and start cleaning house.
