Russ Martin- When Humor turns to stalking?

Re: Remember

Oh my gosh. Hello...what is this WHOLE thread about? Russ. People think he just wants to be talked about....what the heck are we doing? Talking about him. So who is coming out ahead?????

If you don't like him or what he does...don't listen. I have changed my dial many times on several radio shows (not only his) ...My Choice!

He has the listeners.......look at his ratings.

Something he's doing is right no matter what those "in the business" say on boards like these.

You say Russ has peaked,....ummmmm, well yea at #1, (that's where the peak is at, unless man has invented another number higher than "one" for the ratings service). And I don't remember hearing anything about a fish actually being sent to Gooo's house, just where he was doing the remote from.

Come on now facts are, (and like it or not), ANY/ALL radio & TV broadcaster's job is to sell advertising for the most money that they can. This dollar amount is set by how good the ratings for your show are. Why would ANYONE (Russ or any show with good ratings for that matter) change a show if it gets the kind of ratings that show a majority of the people in the ratings survey want to hear it?

You say he goes too far, what do you expect him (or anyone in that situation) to do? If YOU had his show, how would YOU justify/defend keeping your job to your bosses if you made the show more "friendly", and then the numbers had a free-fall in the ratings? You couldn't.

Come on now, say it, bit, bit, bit, bit, (you know you want to).

- Remove all personalities, feelings, ratings, mad wives etc from this discussion - Infinity (Viacom, stock symbol VIA) has to please the stockholders on a quarterly basis - and the way to do that is to increase revenues (KLLI just announces increased ad rates effective 1/1/06) without increasing expenses. "Cleaning house" on the #1 show is HORRIBLE business.

Ummmm,....Huh?
I don't remember Stern using the "dead air" thing too much. Or turning off the mikes while on the air to talk off-air while the listeners get to hear "hold music". Also don't think Stern uses the "news guy that can't read news or pronounce names/places in the news", bit.

To his credit, Russ HAS said MANY times that he and other broadcasters could not be where they are today if it wasn't for Stern leading the way years before.

What the hell is your point here? I didn't say they use the same toothpaste either. Let's hope Russ thought of SOMETHING by himself over the years, and you kindly pointed out those "mindblowing" bits. Now we can all sleep tonight.

How do you explain Russ Martin instructing a listener how to "Take a fall" and "fake a head injury" for Magoo's next apearence?

Actually no I don't want to,nor do I have a desire to. I will say however, sick sick sick, anything for money. Promoting insensitivity is really something to be proud of and supporting it speaks for itself. That's all I am going to say on this crap, and that is just what it is..period.

Thank you JUBB

at least one of you "in the business" understands how it works. Infinity has a sack, a big one. And they are telling people who think every broadcast should be milk and cookies to shut up, read the first amendment, and tune out while they provide the brand of entertainment that the people of our community are saying they prefer to your lame ideas book after book.

This is THEATER people. Wait, ive got an idea...lets put Tom Cruise in jail because in Collateral his character killed people. Did you hear they took the word gullible out of the dictionary?

Infinity's sack has shriveled. As far as "gullible" is concern. I couldn't have picked a better word for his defenders. Ad nauseaum.

Good Point - Looks like he also observed Gordon Keith Dave Lane and the Ticket.

Well the point is, you said that "he should thank Stern on the air", But he has thanked him, many times (guess you didn't hear it). You make it sound like Russ is trying to HIDE the fact that Stern lead the way for him (and many, many others in the radio business) judging by what he has said on-air, Russ hasn't tried to hide this fact.

Get some sleep if you must (LOL)

This thread re-cap: Some think "Magoo" is a broadcast legend, some don't. Some listen to Russ & like him, some listen to Russ and dislike him. Some listen to Russ and think he is GOD, some listen to him and think he is ~EVIL~.

Some make it sound like they don't listen to the RMS, but they sure seem to know a bunch about a show they don't listen to.

Some sound like they just might be a rabid die-hard fan that just might take a bullet for Russ, some sound like the guy that just might fire the gun at Russ.

Some are happy for his success, some sound jealous that they can't be as successfull.

When business loses its sensitivity,it's time to get out of business. Gags are one thing, harming another for business is another. If it was done privately,so be it,But it was A public charity event. Does Ebeneezer come to mind? Arrghh, there I go again.I broke my vow commenting further on this crap. Nuff said.

I had a personal conflict with Russ Martin.

He personally called me "the biggest 'F-up' he's ever met in his 25 years of broadcasting.

I don't like him. I think he's very mean, and his show is extremely mean spirited. On the show and off, he surrounds himself with lawyers, doctors, real estate people, people that can give or provide free things, and even the police and firemen to provide a personal buffer and an arsenal when needed. He also uses Operation Kindness as a shield for consistently unkind behavior, and as fuel for his adage: "Good deeds make more of an impact when they come from an 'a-hole.'"

But the man is brilliant. None of you can deny it. He made a show where he can do exactly what he wants with exactly the people he wants to work with. He makes lots of money for himself and for Infinity, so management and corporate are forced to leave him alone and let him do a show exactly the way he wants to do it. He continually and consistently retains the highest ratings and overall TSL's. He is the only person in DFW who can make the program director a cast member, and consistently portray him as a buffoon, and get away with it. He is the only person in DFW that can call his own idol, Ron Chapman, a "bag of pis*," and still get him to come on his show.

Other people and some other shows have been forced to present themselves as idiots just to get scraps from the table of cross-promotion, by allowing Russ to make total fools of them. Who else can do that?

Again, I personally stand nothing to gain by praising him. But we can learn alot from him. He is the only one in this market who has made a radio show NOT sound like a radio show. Who else in this market has made a show wherein changeover of personnel and turnover of show "cast members" have not affected the pinnacle of ratings?
