Wait I forgot Lisa Kim of KNTV 11 San Jose moved from MSNBC tabloid era in 1998 to join KNTV before it became an NBC Station. I know Don Knapp of KRON 4 and KPIX 5 moved from CNN correspondent in the 1990's to to local news in San Francisco. Pat Harvey moved from HLN News in the 1980's to WGN and KCAL9/KCBS 2 in the 1990's-present.

Don Knapp was a local Bay Area TV reporter as far back as the 70s, I think...the 80s at least. I don't remember him going to CNN, but if he did, it wasn't for long. He's one of the old war-horses of Bay Area TV news.

Both Kevin Newman and Lisa McRee were co-hosts for Good Morning America in the late 90s but Newman is now in Canadian news while McRee was doing a public affairs program on a PBS station in California.

Jane Robelet was on CBS This Morning and is currently on WYFF in Greenville SC. Talk about a change there.

Of course there is also Jodi Applegate too who went from NBC and hosting the weekend editions of Today to WNYW in NYC.

The Newman/McRee pairing (1998-99) was a dark time for GMA. When ABC News realized they weren't putting a dent in Today Show ratings, and slid into 3rd place, they got replaced by Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer. When GMA did their 30th anniversary show (2005), there wasn't a mention of McRee or Newman.

Lisa McRee did dual duties at ABC she was anchor at KABC7 and ABC News

I'm pretty sure Lisa wasn't doing KABC at the same time as GMA, or even her first network stint as co-anchor of ABC's "World News Now" - with Kevin Newman.

They got a raw deal on GMA. Kevin and Lisa were two of my favorite anchors on "WNN".

"Newman is now in Canadian news" needs to be clarified. He is a Canadian, and came from there to ABC News...first as WNN co-anchor, then GMA, then as a correspondent for WNT. After leaving ABC News, he returned to Canada, where he was the anchor of "Global National" on the Global broadcast network for many years.

It's not like he "went to Canada" because he escaped the U.S. or something...he's Canadian. :D

I've always watched ABC News and was a huge Newman fan. My favorite WNN pairing was Newman and Thalia Assuras (I've still got a crush on her). I was happy when Newman and McRee got GMA. However, I did take the day off work so I could watch the GMA episode when Gibson and Sawyer returned.

I know that Jon Du Pre of Fox News during the Tabloid era of Fox News in 1998 moved from National Correspondent to Co-Anchor the News at KNXV with former KCBS2 News anchor and WBZ4 Anchor Johnathan Elias around 2000's?

Du Pre later went to KNXV. I think having two male anchors didn't last long at 15. They brought in Katie Raml ( :D ), who is still there today co-anchoring with Steve Irvin, formerly of WTVF Nashville.

Fixed.

Didn't Rick Sanchez move from CNN to broadcast games for the University of Florida?

I remember somebody talking about putting Rick Sanchez on KCBS2/KCAL9 and KNX 1070 back in April 2011 but I don't know what happened from there.

Du Pre landed weekends at the ABC affiliate in Salt Lake. I understand he has now exited and is working for BYU TV in Provo, Utah.

I don't know about U of F, but I remember the only threads about Sanchez during this period were that he was trying to get a job in local LA television, not that anybody was seeking his "talents," in particular.

I forgot this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx8WVzt3scI&feature=related

John Beard of KTTV Fox 11 and KNBC 4 in LA managed to before the respected Morning news Anchor in Buffalo NY after spending 27 years as the LA Evening News Anchor.

I noticed this one awhile back. Perhaps a personal location issue, or perhaps he just wanted a more stable environment. Who knows? What motivates talent is unknown, unless they spew it out on facebook or twitter. I do respect talented people who move to where they think it makes the most sense to them. Beard is definitely one of them.

There was a brief time (one year in 1997) when it was just Charlie Gibson and Lisa McRee and ratings were fine. The problem was Charlie Gibson retired too soon in 1998, and Lisa hadn't yet settled with viewers. So from Charlie and Joan, it went to Lisa and Kevin in a matter of two years.

I think ABC has learned how to phase in anchors (see Robin Roberts): from replacement to co-anchor to anchor.

But Look Lisa McRee was at KABC as Ann Martins Replacement around 1995-1996 and she was doing special assignments for ABC News. I think Christine Lund or Laura Diaz took Mcree's place when she went to GMA.

I still can't believe CBS passed over Russ Mitchell for Katie Couric. How in the name of Cronkite did that happen? Big win for Cleveland.

Lisa McRee's co-anchor on World News Now was Aaron Brown (ex-KING-TV and KIRO-TV Seattle, future CNN). Hard to believe it's been 20 years since those two started that program.

This is very interesting for a National TV Network Anchor to move to Mid-Market Local TV anchor.

Since when is market #18 a "Mid-Market?" ???
Well that depends on how you look at the glass - HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL

Russ isn't the first network personality to leave a network for a local market that's not New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Here are a few examples.....

JOHN FERRUGIA Left CBS for KCNC 4 back in the 1980s (??) (Then owned by NBC). He's now at KMGH 7

JEREMY HUBBARD Returned to KDVR 31 after a stint at ABC (He originally left KDVR for ABC but returned to Denver, which is apprently his hometown)

REYNELDA MUSE Left KCNC 4 in the early 1980s for CNN (She returned to the station many years later to finish her career)

I'm sure there are other examples but the point is that this it's not at all uncommon for a network personality to feel a little "Homesick" & decide to return home

Cheers & 73 :)
