Russ Oasis & G. Michael McKay: 'The Big World Scene Tonight'

This was a very low-budget comedy-news program (think "Weekend Update") hosted by Russ Oasis and G. Michael McKay, both at WWWL ("Love 94") at the time, which was probably either 1976 or 1977. It aired late night on WKID, Channel 51, and was probably very short-lived.

Why am I telling you this? Because I was surprised when my Google on "big world scene tonight" revealed zero matches, and because I'm curious whether anyone else remembers this show. I have poor-quality audio of one episode that I probably made by holding a microphone to the TV speaker way back when, and if it's truly a "lost" program, I'll put some effort into trying to restore it to make it listenable enough to post somewhere.

The program contains a plea for writers and asks those interested to write to them at Love 94.

Not being a fan of their politics today, yes I saw this show as well. Certainly was different, I'll admit.

I remember they incorporated a whole episode of "Get Smart" & even a childish 1960 "Felix the Cat" cartoon in the show. Campy.

I also remember "Jeffreyson's" department store parody ads (takeoff on Jefferson's stores then), including "Jeffreyson's White Sale" (don't ask) and I think there was also "Jeffreyson's Communist Sale."

Does anyone know the theme song? It was a "newsy" lead-in....other TV stations may have possibly used the same tune for their nightly news.

Wow that brings back alot of memories, Russ Oasis and G. Michael, both were friends and I worked with both of them, and on several occasions was part of the studio audience (radio friend's) at WKID when they were doing their TV stint and everybody had alot of fun, at the time channel 51 had little or no real equipment to work with, I was surprised the station was even on the air, but let's not leave out "Dave Dixon" he also was part of the TV-51 line-up!

Russ Oasis has a of website and e-mail address and if I remember correctly he now owns and operates a couple of radio stations in Indiana and you can Bing or Google his name for his e-mail address and knowing Russ, he'd be more then "happy" to answer questions you might have.....I assure you!

I was a cameraman at WKID at the time... wacky time.... I don't remember the name of the show (mid 70's... wacky time). But I do remember some great stories... especially re: Dave Dixon, Roger King, and the first all-nite show host, M.T. Graves. Most fun of my TV career...

A good friend of mine ran camera at WKID. His name was Brian Reily. We had worked together in radio. At the time WKID was doing some live Spanish shows and as I remember the english speaking floor crew didn't understand spanish so they just did the best they could.

M.T. Graves and Captain Kid were of course Charlie Baxter. I used to hang around with his son Tim Baxter, again we worked in radio together. Tim is in the North Carolina mountains and is doing very well for himself. For awhile he had some low power TV stations that were on cable in the Boone, NC area. I know Tim has a love of TV from working with his Dad.
