Russ thoughts?

So, has anyone pondered him taping the show at his normal, accustomed hours, then sending it out at whatever time a station wants to run it the next morning? Solves the early morning issue. He could do it live in the mornings for the first couple of months, get people thinking he's there, take some calls, etc, then do it on his own terms thereafter. Just take the phone off the hook and callers get a busy signal and never know the difference.

And what was the reason he was pulled in Austin once already? Just a format change, or was his show taking off there or not?

And the local issue. Will he be able to entertain Houston and Austin with Dallas-only tidbits? Has anyone noticed a shift away from local stuff here lately? And with Howard's numbers being bad here since the move to KYNG/KLLI, can Russ expect to do any better? The competition's much different in the mornings. And if he has to settle for mediocre morning ratings, will he be content with cashing the checks and doing his thing, or will he want his safer afternoon shift back eventually? Even Chapman floundered the last few years of his career, but he faithfully kept coming in every morning and did his thing despite what the ratings said. Can Russ handle that?

Just asking for unbiased input to objective questions; not trying to start a keyboard war here over a typically sensitive subject.

I think he can pull off mornings, Whe n Howard was lifted from the Eagle, Russ came in and had respectble numbers. Lightening striking twice? Why not?

Your facts are a bit off. Using the most recent 4-Book Howard is A25-54 #5 overall, #4 English Language, #3 General Market. and M25-54 #4, #3, & #2 in the respective categries. I would not categorize those numbers as "being bad."

Russ will do what Russ wants to do.

I think that very feat is the reason that Infinity worked so hard to secure the RMS for at least KLLI, if not more.<P ID="signature">______________

Considering that KLLI pays Howard as much if not more than just about any other morning talent in the market, I think those are dissapointing numbers. He hasn't been consistantly in that range until the last year or so. His first 24 months back he was having a hard time breaking the top 10.

Re: Stern thoughts

Yeah, that's the last I'd heard, was what Stern was doing his first two or three years back (and Infinity did him a big injustice by not putting him on one of their stations right when KEGL dropped him in 1997...any momentum was long lost by the time he got on KYNG/KLLI.) I have no problem with Howard succeeding, I just hate the bastardization that KLLI does to his show. 20 min commercial breaks. Relentless promotion of other station shows. Using low-grade tape (or very low bitrate HD) to record him with. A general talk-down-to-you attitude from the station, who seems to forget that not every Howard listener is under 21 and goes to the Men's Club nightly. All this "extra" crap makes the show unlistenable, to me at least. As a person who was once strongly devoted to Stern's show, I haven't listened in over two years. KLLI has ruined it for me. The Sirius thing is very appealing, provided they don't muck up the show with the same kind of crap.
