Russell Is Denied....

For once the flow of the tide is with the FCC. It's time Russell wakes up to the real world and, first, quits trashing stations because he finds it amusing, and two, doing things on his schedule such as filing petitions. JR needs to find somethking else to do. He obviously has a source of money from somewhere--more dollars than sense.

LOL

How very true.

For anyone who's not familiar with the saga of Jerry Russell, there is some excellent background material available on the Mississippi board. A number of posts come from people who worked at stations owned by Russell's MRS Ventures in Mississippi, along with comments from posters who are familiar with his activity in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and here in Texas.

It's well worth the time to read this particular thread, which provides a lot of insight: www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,61628.0.html

Interesting stuff. It appears that things are even worse than I thought. Having watched KZEY and KOFY go down the tubes probably forever, gives me no joy. I hope the outlook for KWRD is better. The current operator is doing a good job of being a decent local radio station, but it bothers me that Jerry Russell still owns it. Things could go horribly wrong. I know it is none of my business, but I have an uneasy feeling about it.

I suspect KOFY is gone forever. As far as I know, KZEY has met a similar fate. I think that is tragic. It’s too bad that there isn’t some way to bring them back.

KOFY is a dead issue, since the only way anything could ever happen with 1060 would be if the FCC were to announce another AM filing window. The rules state that no one can file for deleted facilities until the next filing window. Since the FCC hasn't finished processing all of the applications filed in January '04, that won't be happening anytime soon. On the other hand, KZEY could be resurrected but based on what's been going on with Russell it would have to happen soon. The call letters and license are still on the books, at least for now.

Agreed on both counts.

I couldn't agree with you more on all three counts here. Has the FCC "officially" relicensed KWRD? I've looked a couple times and didn't see a definitive license for it.

The last time I looked up KWRD on the FCC's CDBS, it showed "Licensed." I don't think the EAS violation fine has been paid yet, but I could be wrong about that. The CDBS isn't always up to date.
