Russell Perry buys translator K221FQ 92.1 Enid

Just noticed that Perry is buying translator K221FQ 92.1 Enid from Magpie Comm. They have filed to change city of licence from Enid to Edmond. Wonder what Perry plans on doing with it.

Sounds like he may simulcast KVSP or KRMP on the frequency. I bet it's gonna be KRMP since AM 1140 is a daytimer and can broadcast 24 hours on 92.1.

Can you really put a daytime only AM on a FM translator 24 hours? What's the difference between that and just programming the translator with programming that doesn't originate on any other station?

Yes you can. Tyler Broadcasts daytime KTLR 890 on their 94.1 translator 24 hours.

According to the application to move the translator to Edmond it's neither one of those. At the proposed site the translator wouldn't qualify as a fill-in for KRMP or KVSP since it would lie outside their contours and therefore extend coverage, which isn't allowed with common ownership.

This doesn't mean that things couldn't change, but here's an excerpt from the application, emphasis added: APPLICANT CERTIFIES THAT THE PROPOSAL IS FOR A FILL-IN TRANSLATOR ENTIRELY WITHIN THE PRIMARY STATION'S PROTECTED CONTOUR. THE APPLICANT HAS RECIEVED (sic) PERMISSION FROM RENDA BROADCASTING CORPORATION OF NEVADA, LICENSEE OF THE PRIMARY STATION KMGL(FM), TO REPEAT THE STATION ON THE TRANSLATOR STATION AND AUTHORIZED IT AS A FILL-IN SIGNAL.

Interestingly, the proposed location for the translator isn't near Edmond, but instead about five miles southwest of Perry. Link to the complete application: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101456977&formid=349&fac_num=77231

There could be something totally different going on here..perhaps the idea is a "quid pro quo" kind of thing..Perry rebroadcasts Renda, and Renda gets a translator somewhere else to rebroadcast Perry. It's been done before.

The FCC will only allow you to move a translator in steps, basically the width of the translator's 60 dbu coverage area. You can eliminate steps by rebroadcasting a commercial station and moving within it's main contour. So for now, the primary station is KMGL for the purposes of moving the thing. Once they get it to it's final destination, which could be anywhere in the OKC area, they'll simply change the primary station to 1140 AM (an educated guess)
