Can anyone tell me about the radio stations there? My wife and I may be relocating there before long... I want to get some part time work just to keep my hand in it.

Going to be working at the nuclear plant or Arkansas Tech? Can't imagine why else anyone would relocate to Russellville. We used to call it "Rutville" when I was in Little Rock! As for the radio scene, not sure if anything's local there anymore. I seem to remember pretty much everything being "on the bird" most of the time, though KARV may have some local programming. Max Media owns most everything there, including one regional Mexican station and an AM/FM combo in Morrillton. KARV is, or at least was, owned by Kermit Womack, owner of KURM in Rogers. The good news, though, is that you're a pretty close drive to Little Rock and Ft. Smith if you want to do some weekend radio. I don't know what your prospects would be in either of those today, but they'd probably be a lot better than in Russellville. Besides, Pope County is a dry county, and I believe every county that borders it is, too. So, you'll need an excuse to make a beer run, and that could be the radio job!

Ahh my beautiful hometown.... Memories of KARV's Dial-A-Trade and covering city council meetings at night.

If you want to jock... River Valley Radio might have some openings... I really couldn't tell ya.

If you just want some general board op stuff... call Chris over at KARV.

Russellville is a great town...

In the early 70's, a friend who was a single guy moved from Hot Springs to Russellville but didn't stay long. Somebody asked him if was because he didn't like the nightlife. He replied there wasn't any night life not to like.

I worked at KARV for a year back then. There wasn't much to do, that's for sure. Had to go to Morrilton to buy beer.

Well, as far as radio goes...Russellville may not be the best market. But let's face it... radio doesn't really have any great markets anymore. I'm sure if you are just wanting some part time work it will be fine. As far as the city goes...if you are interested in more than beer, it is a very nice community.

I too am a veteran of "Fire Call"..."Dial-A-Trade"... and "Bids for Bargains" ( I was there the day Jim Wise advertised "Item 58 on Bids-For-Bargains this morning is a "Roto-Sh**ter Grass Trimmer" from FC Peters and Sons...")

ahh.. Memories! (dang! Now I'm hungry for some Stoby's Cheese Dip!)

and a "Double-Double" from Wattaburger with a side of fries the size of your head!

The town is big time now. they have a Cracker Barrel!

Okay, so I'm a year late responding to this board, but I, too, am a vet of KARV. My first job in radio, actually...back in 1977 at the ripe age of 15. These were the days where 'the air force band and singing sargeants' signed off the station at midnight with 'America the beautiful,' after I had back-timed my final song (an Eric Carmen tune, to be precise) to my then-high school sweetie. I distinctly remember the Cokes in glass bottles (nothing tastes as good) in the old-fashioned (so to speak) machine behind the control room...and the way the heavy wooden back door sounded when it slammed shut behind me after I'd put the station to bed.

Memories!
