Russo laughs off Neil Best!

This afternoon WFAN's Chris Mad Dog Russo (working solo, Mike Francesa on vacation) discussed the recent articles by Neil Best of Newsday. He laughed off the reports of the two breaking up. He confirmed a recent rocky road relationship. Key words...contract & no-complete clause. Russo knows he's got a great thing going and a young family to take care of. The MIKE & DOG METER goes up to 75% of the two staying put until 2010.

Russo does not care too much for Best because he trashed one of Russo's books.

FAN would never allow the only thing the station still has to sell to break-up, no matter how much they hate each other.

It's a shame that fat, obnoxious slob Francesser doesn't remember where he came from. He's an arrrogant prick and is lucky Russo is there to keep his dreadful actr in check. What an ******!

Right on Playman! Francessa thinks who the hell he is. Honestly... I stopped listening to the 2 pompous idiots right before the Super Bowl. They hammered Plaxico for 4 days leading up to the game because Plax told the media that the Giants were going to win. I truly haven't listened since. The two of them think they are the be all and end all of NY sports. I perfer my talk hosts to speak to me not at me. If you disagree with Francessa, he treats you like an idiot. What might be entertaining, although it will never happen, is Dog and Sid. That may lead to the first on air murder in NY radio history.

Rob, did you use to work in the promotions department at 1050 ESPN?

2003 promo: "Wally and the Keeg... two hosts that talk sports with you, not at you. Afternoons..."

::)

While I understand the criticism of Mike and the Mad Dog when it comes to the way they treat their callers, a lot of the callers are complete idiots. How many times can someone hear things like: "Let's trade Wilson Betemit and Darrel Rasner to the Indians for C. C. Sabathia," etc.?

Mike may be arrogant, but people still listen.. The Dog might murder the English language, but his act is extremely popular... These guys do it right... it seems that the afternoon listeners want a little arrogance in their hosts.

They also interview guests extremely well and understand that sports did exist before 1996...

...Afternoon drive in NYC has gotten a bit stale over the past 10 years:
WABC has the generic Sean Hannity
WOR finally tried to pass off Henican and White as a good show (Malzberg is good, though)
WEPN's MIchael Kay is gettign better, but was somewhat immature before last year.
Free-FM couldn't get listeners when it was around

Truthfully, can someone come up with a combo as good as Mike and Chris?

As I live in New York, I do regularly listen to a sports talk show host in the afternoon who has a little bit of arrogance and a lot of sports knowledge.

Fact is... it's Howard Eskin of WIP/Philadelphia via their Internet stream.
