Ok folks, it is that time to pass out the Grades for the radio stations in Rutland. Here are mine:
WEXP-101 The Fox-Still has a great sound, altough it has NO staff whatsoever! Had to sharpen it's blades for when the Drive went after it, and they did an ok job for 2009 Grade: B
WJJR-Same ol' same ol'! NEVER does anything different, and probably never will. Still continues to try to pass itself off as a "The Rutland Do-good and Feel-good" station. Even though it's signal stretches into New York and New Hampshire. Don't THEY deserve a Feel-Good from JJR? Grade: B-
WZRT-Overall the station sounds pretty good. Some jocks still need to polish up their delivery and reduce the amount of laughing at their own jokes on-air! Tanch at night is a talent, and obviosly piped in from another market, because nothing here ever does is Rutland specific. The firing of JD Redmond will hurt. Grade: B+
Cat Country-The best of all the Catamount stations by far! Even while flying solo, Judy Anderson continues to show how much of a true professional she is. They were lucky that she stayed around to give them the best product they've got. She learned alot from her Clear Channel and Door Drive days, and it shows! Grade: A
The Drive-Speaking of talent and professional. Ed Kelly, enough said! Solid station even after the tinkering it went through at the hands of you know who. Just wish the signal was stronger, perhaps with JJR's obsession with Rutland ONLY, they could switch the 2, but the Proff and Bear would NEVER allow that for their golden child! Grade: A
WSYB-This station is in deep trouble! The morning show needs something resembling life! Move the host over one seat and bring in someone that can WAKE people up, instead of putting them back to sleep! Philbin is still the most talented radio person in the Catamount Group, and like Judy Anderson, they're lucky to have him. Rush, Dennis Miller, no need to grade them, they're solid. News? joke! Sports? EMBARRASSING! How can a station consider it's coverage to be "award winning", when the award winner doesn't work there anymore? This once proud station is on the verge of just having its staff as listeners and it's sad. Grade: F
What are your thoughts?
