Rutland County Returns-HIGH

Looks like the ol' Cat is out of the Bag...meow! ;) And my big girlfriend at cc wasn't too shy to tell me that the diary returns in Rutland County were pretty high this time. Which doesn't do well for the valley sticks. I know that things up here on the farm in Sharon can be a little tough and shady. Which does remind me, I gotta get those darn trees trimmed back along the south pasture fence...Before those jersey heffers go wild...She also told me its a little sad not be the golden goose egg-number 1. However, she did remind me that she and her big bustin' fellow weren't on for most of, if not all of the spring. Which means her little peeps were off samplin' on the wolfie. Oh well, the third books the charm she told me. And speakin' of the fall - The boys and I can't wait for harvest season. It'll be nice once this years world's fair in Tunbridge is done. Hey Bud Hill, don't be a stranger! I'll be over milkin' round the 4-H tents if you wanna stop by. You hunk of beef! woof!

DISCLAIMER: Please don't take what I am about to say as some sort of personal afront. There will be no personal stake or feelings in the following text. I am not a disgruntled employee, or someone employed currently by CC. I realize that even with the above information, someone is going to offense, which seems to be par for the course, however, I will trudge on, with the full knowlege that someone is not going to be able to objectivly read my thoughts without spinning it to a personal level. I will do my best to sleep tonight knowing that.

Those are the rules for reading the following, deal?????

I must say that I am shocked, saddened, and disapointed in what I saw with the returns. Cat Country? I mean....Are you serious??? I had the bad fortune of hearing Cat Country a while back. I have not heard worse radio in a long long time. Let me specify what it is I am talking about-

1. Segs between records. Now, I realize that even in the current times of imaging between almost all elements, there are still stations that will employ the seague, they are few and far between. If you, however, opt to throw back to the old days and do it, at least place your sec tones where there is not almost dead air between them.

2. When I heard the jock, he gave no station ID, no slug line. He spoke about a few random things, then went on to the next song.

3. The audio quality of some of the songs sounded like they were dubbed from cassette.

4. There seemed to be no focus in the music or station direction.

To be fair, I listened for seveal days and at several different times, and came up with the same conclusions.

This having been said, I was, as indicated above SHOCKED to see the returns!!

So what is the deal?

1. Are people in Rutland so accoustomed to bad radio that it becomes the norm?
2. Was there just a kiss blown to Cat?
3. Did the PD's moms bridge club fill out all the diaries?

I just dont get it!! When you have a market with a slick station like Kiss (MAKE NO MISTAKE-KISS IS NOT ENTERATINING WHAT WITH JOHN AND JUDY et. al), at least they sound a little more focused. Heck, even sister WJJR sounds overall better.
There is KIXX in Lebanon, with an average sound, but still leaps and bounds above that of Cat. The wolf sounds real good, but doesnt hit Rutland all that well. Perhaps it is just a heavy country return, with only only viable choice in the city for those who want country.

I would love to hear your thoughts, although I am sure I will have to wade through the personal attacks. Now Cat Country boys, dont get all worked up and defensive. It just don't sound like good radio. Cat Country used to rock...was tight, and slick. What happened?

Don't mind me, just keepin and eye on the radio!!

I think this latest Rutland/Lebanon book clearly illustrates the point that arbitron made a mistake by combining these areas. It simply doesn't work. It's sad that Arbitron will take subscriber money when their statistical data is bunk! Wouldn't it have made more sense to have the UV/Claremont/New London/Newport/Springfield areas make up the mkt? I just think that Rutland is off on it's own and really doesn't fit with the UV, or even with Manchester to the south. It was all a cash grab for Arbitron and of course a bogus marketing tool for Nassau & CC. Has it really made any difference for the stations since the new market was created? I still hear the same car dealers and stuff in the spot breaks. I'm not hearing the national/regional clients that Nassau/CC covet so much. There's a few national spots that you've always heard on the CC stations. Has anything really changed? The Q is boring as hell, the Chump is chump. 93.9/101.7 is a train wreck chipping away at Chump,KIXX and BOB err Wolf should have a nice battle(the Cat ratings were just an anomaly), last time I listened XL was horrible and Z is pretty solid for what they do. If anything some of them are worse since the market formed. Here's the $64k question, has the listener benefitted since arbitron came into the picture? If so how?
