I found myself stuck on The Sound 100.3 while I was down there. I initially was tuning in because I heard Krock's Julie Slater. But then kept tuning it in for the music. Great mix of Kings of Leon, Joe Jackson, Squeeze, Bush, Queen... and some newer stuff that I didn't recognize. Plus there was Clapton and I even heard Ray Charles.
They say they're Triple A, but was just a solid rock station. I must have said out loud, "Why can't WRXP sound like this." A HUNDRED TIMES!!!!
PS Julie sounds a little more laid back. Getting the hell out of NY must be doing her wonders! Always liked her on the air.
I've personally met Julie and she is a totally cool!! As are the other DJs on The Sound, most of whom I have also met. You may be surprised by my opinion, but in some ways I think WRXP is almost the East Coast version of The Sound. WRXP does play even more 70s rock that does not belong on an adult alternative station. Every new listener to The Sound feels the way you did, sampling them for a week. Let me assure you, the novelty wears off on most of them. I know this because The Sound forum posts reflect an eventual disenchantment with the station. I imagine WRXP listeners feel similar to that. The Sound's DJs are greater than the station's playlist. I can't say the same about WRXP's DJs , they are bad compared to the equally bad playlist mix.
