RXP 101-"POINT NINE"

I just spent a week in L.A. on vacation.

I found myself stuck on The Sound 100.3 while I was down there. I initially was tuning in because I heard Krock's Julie Slater. But then kept tuning it in for the music. Great mix of Kings of Leon, Joe Jackson, Squeeze, Bush, Queen... and some newer stuff that I didn't recognize. Plus there was Clapton and I even heard Ray Charles.

They say they're Triple A, but was just a solid rock station. I must have said out loud, "Why can't WRXP sound like this." A HUNDRED TIMES!!!!

PS Julie sounds a little more laid back. Getting the hell out of NY must be doing her wonders! Always liked her on the air.

I've personally met Julie and she is a totally cool!! As are the other DJs on The Sound, most of whom I have also met. You may be surprised by my opinion, but in some ways I think WRXP is almost the East Coast version of The Sound. WRXP does play even more 70s rock that does not belong on an adult alternative station. Every new listener to The Sound feels the way you did, sampling them for a week. Let me assure you, the novelty wears off on most of them. I know this because The Sound forum posts reflect an eventual disenchantment with the station. I imagine WRXP listeners feel similar to that. The Sound's DJs are greater than the station's playlist. I can't say the same about WRXP's DJs , they are bad compared to the equally bad playlist mix.

No hatred for XRK? I HATE XRK, They SUCK!!! PD has no clue how to rock or about any of it for that matter, especially new stuff out there! At this point I never turn them on, but I would take the old K-Rock days of "Rock Radio for NY" or the days they branded themselves "New Yorks new music alternative" any day over this garbage! CBS just plain sucks for rock! Look what they did to YSP which is a pathetic waste of a frequency as far as i'm concerned. Get a clue CBS and XRK, why don't you follow the route of successful active rock stations run by the good folks of great scott broadcasting, they know a thing or two about rock and numbers. On the other hand great job with 101.1 CBS FM. XRP has surprised me a couple times playing things like harder alternative acts like for ex. incubus -stellar, more than what lame-rock does, so i give them credit. However I do agree with most of you on the board that i find myself changing the station cause they are all over the place. Maybe if they model themselves after RFF 104.5 or FM104.1 or even baltimores channel 104.3 they would get some solid numbers. Just a thought.

Yeah, based on that list, it seemed a lot like RXP to me. And personally, I like RXP's DJ's - they're a big part of what keeps me listening in spite of how disjointed the playlist is, along with it being the only outlet in NYC for a lot of great new music and classic alternative. I am glad to hear that Julie Slater has a good gig in LA, as I always liked her on K-Rock. As for today's K-Rock... grrr, don't get me started.

You like the RXP DJ's? They sound like a sleepy Lite-FM or a third-tier market's album rock station.
