Ryan Seacrest - American Top 40

Is it just me or is the playing the top 40 or for that matter the year end top 100 besides the point when doing his broadcast? Here I was listening to the show earlier and around the countdown at #9 or so, he announces that the #1 song is "Love Song"-Sara Bareilles was the #1 song. He calls her father to announce this and then plays the song.

When he was done doing this, he then continued with playing song at #8 for the year. ??? Now am I missing something here? Why even have a countdown at all?

Because many radio people are too stupid to do anything else for a living. As if a blatant lack of common sense like that would get them hired in any other industry.

What station were you listening on?...It is very possible that whoever is responsible for dubbing the show into whatever system, did it in the wrong order....perhaps those shows are delivered on cd...if so there are multiple cuts on them

That station that used to tout "where the stars come out to play" aka Kiss 108. It didn't seem cut, he just went right into it without skipping a cue. I guess it could've been put together on CD and played in the wrong order.

Many stations get that show on CD, and it sounds like whoever ripped the show into the automation got the track numbers confused.

Can't rip tracks off a CD properly? Wow. It's official. People in radio can't even count to five.

I shouldn't be that surprised. I never made more than $8/hour in radio. You get what you pay for.

It could also be a programming mistake. You have assigned numbers built into the Selector/Automation clocks and sometimes clocks will load into the system incorrectly. So, AT4013 plays instead of AT4009 which means the segment plays in the incorrect order. To stop this from happening you have the last jock working, prior to Seacrest, check to ensure the segments loaded in the proper order but that doesn't always happen.

Played live from a board op from CD or preloaded by a production person, DJ's are human.  :-\

It is just you.

You may want to try listening more closely; while counting down the Top 100 of 2008, he mentioned that Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" was a #1 song, as it did make it to #1 at one point in 2008, not the #1 song of 2008.

Glad I could help.

He wasn't clear enough though. He said that it was a #1 song and then placed or played a phone call to her father saying that the song was #1. I do not think at any point Ryan said this is the #8 song for the year at all.
