But Wait I thought Seacrest supposed to be more of a Dick Clark Figure. I know Seacrest had a production company like Dick Clark had. I know Seacrest took over Rick Dees KIIS-FM spot and Casey Kasem's America's Top 40 spot, his role on E! TV and Idol. I don't know how he can fit in with MSNBC and NBC News.
But Wait James Gabbert of KOFY TV 20 was seen as a Dick Clark Character during his time on Dance Party in the 1980's and 1990's before he became a fill in talk radio host on KKSF-AM and KGO-AM.
Maybe Seacrest can succeed NBC News. I know Peter Finch was a host on the KFOG Morning show before Cumulus moved him to do the KGO-AM evening news.
Comparing Seacrest or Clark to James Gabbert is kind of a stretch, Recto. For those of you outside the SF Bay Area wondering who James Gabbert is - he was an independent broadcaster in the Bay Area, primarily a radio and TV station owner. He retired a few years ago (he's very wealthy from the sale of his TV station), and he likes to fill in as a radio talk host and even does promos for his old TV station.
Before that, he liked to appear on his TV station as the host of a retro 50s Dance Party show, and the late night movies. He would also jock a bit in his own music stations, and was even the morning drive guy for awhile on his own Oldies station in the 90s.
But there's no real comparison to either Seacrest or Clark, who started as DJs and/or TV hosts, have been in the national media, and have owned successful production companies. Gabbert did it the opposite way - from station ownership to being on air as kind of a hobby.
And Recto - Peter Finch was part of a morning show on KFOG, but he was the
news guy, so moving to KGO to anchor news is not a stretch. Dave Morey was the host for most of Finch's years at KFOG.
