S.A. 6+ PPM MAY NUMBERS

KONO took a hit this month from 8.3 to 7.6 while its cluster-mates all moved up (KISS, KCYY, KTKX, KSMG)... Anybody heard Y-100 lately and what could be behind a 4.9 to 6.5 jump? KTSA is dancing comfortably ahead from WOAI, unsure if it has to do with the hyper-local Ware/Rima/Ricardi lineup or the FM translator helping out the AM buzz.

Vibe 107.5 is on the cusp on making the Top 5. Arguably, the dialed-back playlist still needs a little tweaking and it could "vibe" a bit more with the "San Anto" majority, but it's trending up. The Spanish formats took hits this book with noticeable drops, minus KROM which is stagnant in the 2's. Me thinks they are getting scorched by La Pantera 102.3 (non-encoding) which is heavy-personality. KMYO is still in signal-shock from so many flips... Besides Preciosa (weak translator signal), nobody is truly owning the Reg. Mexican Classics sound IMO.

I hardly noticed AIR-1 (97.7) began encoding in March and is already in the mid 2 shares- giving K-LOVE some competition.

That is just a sample wobble. Well within the normal margin of error.

It is encoded. It would be listed under KROM-HD2 or co-owned KEDA; translators are not listed separately. It is getting a 0.0 share, but it does not show because the translator operator is not subscribed.

They have been encoding all along. They just were not subscribed. Air-1 is part of the K-love family.

Very few stations nationally do not encode if they are in PPM markets. Nielsen tries to convince them to encode as, otherwise, PUR / PUMM looks lower than reality which is bad for the industry.

I definitely believe Vibe can move into the Top 3 with some tweaking.
The difference in rating (not share) between 3 and 5 is generally nothing at all. Agencies buy ratings, not share. So those little moves from 5th to 3rd may be big at the Kentucky Derby but not in radio.

Thanks for the insight as always, David. I don't know if anyone is left at UVN to dial up the programming or an English sales squad to sell local-direct anyway...

Things that can put VIBE over the top might include: another HYPER-local DJ or two, more "office-friendly" Rythmic AC titles, Hispanic-leaning imaging. I think they are good with contesting, throwback concerts, etc. KONO/Q101-9 are mountains of panel-friendly sampling...

How is 103.7 when compared to 97.7? I imagine much better.

Yep, 103.7 (2300 watts) sits on the tower north of downtown and 97.7 (100kw) is off Lake McQueeney. Although 97 has more penetration, 103.7 is a lot more pleasant to hear anywhere west of downtown...
