S.A. 6+ PPM OCTOBER Numbers

KONO re-gains it's share in the 8's (8.2) and KTKX is back in the top 5 (5.6). Good to see MAGIC 105.3 back up (5.0), it seems their workday blend and topical morning (Tony Cortez and Jenny) show is a plus. JACK-FM, KZEP and KBBT continue in a mid-column group in the 3 shares. KMYO and KXXM continue at the bottom with city-grade signals.

Speaking of Morning Shows, seems like a great AM Drive anchors the day or sets the PPM mood. Robin Flores on KONO is extremely-localized with a big dose of Hispanic although music-driven. Bobby Bones on KAJA has kept them steady at 4... Billy Madison on KISS is a constant win. Kidd Kraddick on Q 101.9 is a hit with second place. I dont know what Y-100 is doing in AM Drive but it seems to be paying off. Xavier, also hyper local, on KVBH seems to work. Are there any shows I missed in the top 10? Does K-LOVE do a local or syndicated morning program?

While the two news talk stations are in the 2 shares and do great, local AM shows, are there any up and comer AM/PM drive shows that could be future disruptors?

Last month Magic was airing double plays of Taylor Swift. I'm guessing that likely helped with the PPMs.

96.1 Now has taken a hit due to the push of "New Music" to the masses. That appears to have failed. Perhaps, 96.1 Now will go back to playing more Throwbacks.

Jack FM has been on a downward trend for some time. Has the format run its course?

I wouldn't say that. Alpha now runs the national playlist on 102.7, instead of programming it locally. It's enough of a change in the music presentation that they have lost listeners, likely to KONO 101. The format isn't the problem. San Antonio being used to Jack-FM sounding a certain way, and now it doesn't, is the problem.

I wouldn't expect any earth shattering developments coming to 102.7. Growing the Sports Star has been the recent focus at Alpha SA. Jack fills the hole it's designed to and keeps the bills paid.

Wow, people here don’t wanna hear new music? Geez. What’s up with San Antonio?

Maybe 99.5 Kiss is right. Maybe instead of new Metallica, Foo Fighters, even a posthumous song from Linkin Park that's hitting rock charts these days, they'll just overplay the same songs like 2003 never left them.
