S.A. Community Radio trying to bring back KSJL

Frank Garrett Center, on Saturday July 28,2007,at 1226 N.W. 18th Street, two blocks south of Culebra, beginning at 2pm, for a special announcement concerning Black Radio in San Antonio. As you all know KSJL Radio was taken off of the air leaving the African American Community of San Antonio without a positive voice to address its concerns.

We have formed San Antonio Community Radio to address this issue and will have some important information to share with the community. The event will be a town hall meeting and will deal with some positive developments.

Maybe the Beat could bring them back on HD-2

Good luck on that . We tried the same thing in Boston (Boston loss WILD-AM and FM Urban A/C format last year ) and still no Urban A/C in Boston.

It is all about color...not black....GREEN!! Everyone seems to have forgotten that Radio is a business, (It is supposed to serve the public interest)

If the community had supported KSJL when Inner City owned them, Inner City would not have sold out to CC...twice! If the community had supported KSJL when CC owned it, they would not have continued to down-grade it out of existance.

KSJL was around on many frequencies from 84 to 06:

760 Khz
96.1 Mhz
92.5 Mhz
92.5 Mhz/810 Khz.
and finally 810 Khz.

If...IF...the black community manages to get a LMA, LPFM, or whatever, they better hope the community supports the station better than they have, otherwise, whatever the new freq is...it WILL go dark very quickly. You have to pay the light bill and KSJL has never been able to do that.

Home of the Alamo...The Spirit of 76 KSJL Stereo was HOT back in the 80's. It was like a KBBT eating monster for a while but was limited to the AM Freq. Lack of support for the freq was what caused it to go down, not the format. The station targeted HISP/BLACKS which is something the New Power 106 should do.

People have to remember that San Antonio is a large city with a small market mentality. The Beat with the use of hispanic jocks aimed towards Hispanics and got them. Power 106 comes in trying to go all Urban like an LA or Houston station and they will never win. Watch and see. Listeners here like the small town feel without the hype.

Yes as one put it, IT'S A BUSINESS. Serve the interest YES but people need to eat. I get asked all the time "Why can't you guys play upcoming local artist" ARE YOU CRAZY! It's all about the almighty dollar.
