S.A. Ratings

From: The S.A Express News

Radio ratings

The one-two punch of San Antonio radio is, once again, rap and rock and rock and rap.
KBBT-FM, alias "The Beat," and hard-rockin' KISS-FM, starring the caustic likes of John Lisle and Steve Hahn, nabbed No. 1 and No. 2 in the general-listener category — 12 and older, Monday-Sunday — in the summer Arbitron ratings book just out.

The survey covered roughly July through September. Despite a relative lack of big stories, WOAI scored a substantial No. 7 in general listenership.

KISS, in particular, did gangbusters in the younger-listener category of 18 to 34, taking No. 1 in both all-day ratings and for its Lisle & Hahn morning show.

KONO of the oldies format also was a summer winner with the advertiser-beloved 25-to-54 category, a time when nostalgic and fun tunes are extremely popular. KSMG of the '80s, '90s and today tunes also made out like a bandit, grabbing No. 3 among ages 25-54.

In the Spanish-language category, KROM's romantic sound and bawdy talk show in the mornings scored high. That show took No. 1 in the mornings among listeners 25 to 54.

As for S.A.'s country music race, KAJA-FM overtook KCYY as the most-listened-to station. Seems the relatively new "Two Guys in the Morning" format has begun to make an impression.

The new Z1067 Commercial

Anyone see the new Commercial for Z1067? I cant believe they acually spent some money on that station which bottomed the tank again in the ratings along with K-rock. I dont see how them to are going to make it the way they are going.
______________

Re: The new Z1067 Commercial

I guess you really don't know the history of cox. All the money that is used for anything related to Z106 is from the real money making stations (KONO,Y100).
Z106 will always be the red headed step child of cox radio. Until someone gets smart enough (which will never happen)to realize that the station has potential if it is done the right way.

Re: The new Z1067 Commercial

I would like to see BMP buy them out and shift them over to maybe dance/chr, that might work better then just mainstream dance, if they could play dance hiphop & top 40.

Well the problem that KTFM did was they shifted so many times that listeners just lost interest. When KBBT came along they shifted to hiphop, on down the line they tried to go top 40, then they tried top 40 & dance (like 1067jamz) then fliped to mainstream top 40. or at least thats the way I remembered.

Plus... KTFM had a talk morning show, an AC mid-day shift, and was more CHR or Churban the rest of the time. 3 stations in one...

Re: The new Z1067 Commercial

Well, since it's Cox, I'm sure the format wheel will spin again soon and we'll see something new on that signal. Isn't it odd how every city seems to have a frequency that is "the red headed step-child". 99.5 in Indianapolis has always floundered. But in other cities, the stations are huge.
______________

Re: The new Z1067 Commercial

I would think Cox would try to do something with 1067 with a decent coverage it would seem like a good compatition for the beat. Even KRIO would have a good shot at something good, I think they are going the wrong way with both stations. 92.5 never could realy get in because of the signal, but I would think those other 2 would have a great shot in the market if done right.

I remember when ZPL in Indi used to post double digit ratings...but that was of course before the debut of Hoosier 96.3 (now Hot 96.3)
