S-Bomb On Q105

Today, they played ZZ Top's "Legs," complete with the lyric, "sh**, I gotta have her".

Here's a challenge for anyone who plans on going to the Big Chill Bar & Grill: tell Scott Walker you want to hear Pink Floyd's "Money" or The Who's "Who Are You". ;D

I'll do you one better than that...have him play "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)...If you listen to the last 30 seconds of the 3:30 version, you'll hear Reunion say "Take your pick, say it f***k ya, Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me...trust me, it's there. I've known it since I first played that song when it came out. The cuts off before they get to that part, but the Q's version is from my own personal library. As a matter of fact 75% of their music is from my personal library. And they don't even want to pay me a leaseing fee for it. They do play the edited version of the Who's Who Are You, so that won't work. But the s-bomb is in Leggs by ZZ Top which is also from my library.

Just keep telling your self that...I've spoken with Billy Gibons and that is what they sing. The lyric sheet says one thing and they sing another.

The same can be said for "One of a Kind Love Affair" by The Spinners. The album version is just a moment longer but includes the controversial line that contains an "F" bomb.

Right you are radiorob2.0 . The album version has it, the single version was edit out. The album version is out on the Spinners Box Set put out by Rhino, which Q105 still has of mine. It's the version that they play.

I am convinced Paul McCartney did the same thing on "With A Little Luck." Listen closely to the first time he says it after the intro.

listen to the very end of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing...he sings very clearly...It's good to masterbate. It's the last line in the song. I potted it up one day on the air to mix into the next song and bot was I shocked when I heard that. Never let it play all the way out again on my shift!

A more recent song, James Blunt's "You're Beautiful," has a similar word. One time, a station played the album version by mistake and got fined.

Hey JoJo,
That is one of the best "dj" records in history. You sent me running to listen to my rare long version of Reunion on Nippers Greatest Hits, and I was so disappointed not to hear what you're claiming. Here is a great translation of the lyrics, about the most complete I've ever found:

Where are you hearing that line? Do you know the line before it? Enlighten us please. Sick minds want to know.
Best wishes,

Stu Evans, Phoenix

It's at 2:49 in the song...right after he says "Listen, their playing our song" and starts to rattle off more names. Listen carefully and you'll hear it very clear. I just checked my copy of Nippers greatest hits of the 70's and it's on it right at 2:49. The started to fade at that point and the jocks on the air at that time were already talking over it, so they never really heard it. But...it on the single too if turn up the volume as it fades. Hope that helps, and have a blast with it! By the way, did you know that no CBS station is able to play Chuck Berry's only #1 Hit "My Ding-A-Ling"????That came down from corparate while I was still there. Too much sex in the song!!!PLEASE!!! Give me a break CBS, get over your self. Entercom oldies stations were not able to play Crosby, Stills & Nash's-Southern Cross, because David Fields (the owners son) thought that it was about the KKK. Some people have no business being in the radio business.

"Make it bad and play it funky" says that lyric site. http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/l/lifeisarockbuttheradiorolledme.shtml
But I like your ears better on this one. Even if we're wrong, it's still pretty convincing.
As far as "My Ding A Ling", I think a better reason not to play it is that Chuck Berry should have had three or four number one's, and that shouldn't have been one of them. Agreed? :D Too much sex? Riiiiiight.

Agreed on the Chuck Berry thing! And the lyrics won't print the f bomb anyway. At least not in 1974!

Cant believe any of you havent mentioned We Can Be Together on the Volunteers album by the Jefferson Airplane-Starship-whatever. On the album version: "up against the wall, up against the wall mother f****r, tear down the walls". One of our idiot jocks pointed that out to our GM after about of month of airplay and the following morning there were huge gouges across that track on the album. Yes I am talking about quite a few years ago (1969) when album oriented rock was actually done with albums! BTW There supposedly is a clean version that says "up against the wall Fred"!!

Your right, but the main reason no has mentioned it is because it was never a hit. On the other hand, play the album version of Miracles. It says everything but the f bomb! You don't have to be a rocket scienitist to know what they are talking about. And that was 1975!

Yeah? Jo Jo..check out Anne Murray's "Can I have this Dance" NOT the American version but the Canadian version on Quality records. Play it backwards at 33 and you can hear Anne Murray moaing and saying "take me now you raw f***ing wanker"

But of course no lytrcs are available for that.

How the HELL are ya?

I remember Scott Robbins playing the live version of reeling and rocking which was much more risque on the old WHBO. I even remember Howard Hewes playing "Baby Let me Bang Your Box" one time. Pretty tame by todays standards

"Turn me on, dead man."
"Paul is dead."
"I buried Paul" aka "cranberry sauce."

And then there's "go right to the source and ask the horse"
but if you play the Mr. Ed theme backwards it's supposed
to say "the source is Satan."

So what's on the flip side of They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha? ;D

(A shout out BTW to both Big Shoe and NFVG!)

Flip side of "They're Coming to Take Me Away" was the entire song backwards..
Wasn't the label even printed backwards?

Yes, we played the live Reelin and Rockin at HBO.

Jeff...in that same Anne Murray song there is reference to the Grease Bullet

Doing Great Jeff! Really miss working with you! How the hell are you?? Remember we used to play the live version of reeling and rockin' by Chuck Berry at U92 in 1990. And yeah it is tame by today's standards, but what a great rocker!!
Gotta check out the Anne Murray song. I've only played the American version when it was a hit. I'll have to find a copy of the Candaian original...sounds like it would fun to check into...I finding those things in music!
