I was looking into the s50 and found out its not live unless in the docking station. WTF?? Why not? I have a hard time believing the technology is not avaliable. especially for $329.00. I have a battery powered streamer "boombox" thats portable and live. Why not the s50? and is there any plans to make it live? Thnx.

hmmmm

Makes sense...

Given the poor reception I get with an antenna on my Sportster I was wondering what the reception was gonna be like on that little thing while you're "wearing" it.

I thought for the price perhaps they had developed a usable internal antenna but sounds like you need the docking station antenna.

Bummer bro.

The S50 will never be live. The Sirius chipset draws too much power to run on battery while decoding the satellite broadcast. They need to get the power consumption and heat down. While the software in the S50 is upgradable, they'd need a hardware upgrade to pull it off.

There will be a radio to be announced later will be a true wearable, but it's not the S50. The S-50 is a 1GB MP3 player that happens to be able to record some Sirius channels for $300.<P ID="signature">______________

From rumours I read about a month ago, they were saying that a "new" version of the S50 may be coming out in about 6 months that does have a live reception capability. There was also a rumour that the current S50 might be upgraded to "live" capability with an add on attachment accessory. I haven't heard anything else about it, but it was mentioned on GetSiriusInfo.com as a possibility and rumour.

I think Sirius is behind the curve a bit on the portable stuff. With the new influx of cash, though, they should have a few portables on the drawring board.
For now, I'm happy with my Starmate. But I would love a portable.
