From Tom Taylor Now-
San Antonio –*The Christmas spirit has also deserted iHeart’s AC KQXT (5.7-10.0-4.4). It now ranks seventh. Up on top is the reliable Cox-owned classic hits KONO-FM (7.3-7.0-7.5). Then two closely-matched country stations - iHeart’s “KJ97” KAJA (6.4-5.8-6.6) followed by Cox country “Y100” KCYY (6.2-6.1-6.3). Fourth with a nice bump is iHeart’s talk WOAI (4.8-4.4-5.2). Fifth place is a tie between Univision’s rhythmic “Beat” KBBT (4.5-4.8-4.6) and iHeart top 40 KXXM (5.0-5.0-4.6). Cox’s KISS is indeed rockin’ (2.9-2.7-4.1). Texas Public Radio’s news/talk non-com KSTX gains (3.4-2.9-3.7). And out of nowhere comes Texas Public Radio’s classical non-com KPAC (1.1-1.8-2.8). But it’s a second disappointing month for Cox hot AC KSMG (4.2-3.7-3.6). iHeart’s new urban “Hot 104.5” KZEP cools down, 4.1-3.8-2.4. Univision converted Spanish contemporary KGSX to classic hip-hop “Yo 95.1” KMYO just before Christmas, and the last three months are 2.1-1.9-2.3. Cox’s classic country KKYX has appreciated steadily from a 1.7 six months ago to a 2.3 share today. Classic hits KONO-FM owns the cume lead at 589,000.

I wonder why Hot's cooling down. They do play some good variety.

I've listened to KKYX's 104.9 translator too. Pretty good mix, when I'm in the mood for it. :)
What kind of impact do y'all think the upcoming alternative 103.3 translator will make? I suspect it will cause a shakeup.

Hot is probably cooling down because of both general burn and the added competition from 95.1. New formats will often start out doing very well only to cool down because more people will sample the format when it's new. A good number of those people will get tired of it or decide it's just not for them. Others will go back to their previous favorite station but still check the new one out once-in-awhile. The result is fewer P1 listeners.

As for the new translator at 103.3, I doubt it will cause a shakeup, but it could still pull in decent numbers. Alternative just doesn't have the broad audience appeal it had 20 years ago. You need that to really shake things up, and it needs to be sustainable.

What Kent said ^

It's one of those "new station gets launched and gets good ratings and then settles down after a few months" thing that is going on with Hot. It's got a nice playlist too and iHeart is promoting the heck out of it.

With the App, as a translator, it won't put too much of an impact. It won't even shake up 99.5's ratings. I can probably see a 1.5 rating at its highest. San Antonio is one of those markets that needs a "new rock" format but doesn't have an audience who favors too much of that format (unlike Austin and Dallas). If alternative has a large outcome, maybe Alpha could move it to a larger stick or iHeart or Cox would compete with them by launching an alternative format. But only time will tell.
