The BEAT stays very strong. KJ is very strong, MIX takes a HUGE leap forward and POWER really takes a big DIVE going from the 3's to the 1's woooo.....

Congrats to the dominators and best of luck to the not so up to par :-\

Talk amongst yourselves :)

Congrats to The Beat!! However, I love the Old School Mix on Power 106.7.

What happened to Q101.9 & Jack? They both took a good slide downward.

GO SPURS!!

It seems as if all the other radio stations in town have gloves on and are just pounding on Jack FM. The format is sellable, so what seems to be the problem here???

KTFM had a huge opprtunity to do something remarkable with their reconstruction stunt. Apparently they didnt capitalize on it. They need to figure out who they want to be and stick with it. Hopefully, the audience will come back.

Looks like Mix is on the uprising. Not too surprising since they are the only station in town playing certain records. Not only that they've tightened up the station nicely.

I was surprised by KJ's numbers. Great job guys. (and girls)

When Power first arrived I thought they were going to give 98.5 a good run. Obviously by the numbers that is not the case. Way to go KBBT on staying cool calm and collective. Looks like KBBT is here to stay for a long time.

Its going to be very intersting what Cox is planning to do with ratings so low. Any predictions anyone??

My Thoughts:
I think 98.5 is going to continue to dominate in San Antonio. When Power came in they didnt rush to make drastic changes. Good call on their part. I dont think Cox is going to pull the plug on Power just yet. But it is really bad that the Z format had higher ratings than what they do now. If the numbers continue like this look for Cox to dump the format by Christmas. The only thing I can say about Mix is that I think their numbers are going to continue to rise. San Antonio is flooded with Hip Hop and Mix provides a haven for those who are less hip hop inclined. I have no idea what is to become of KTFM. You really never know when it comes to BMP. Although they really need to try and win back their listeners. Maybe stunting as if you were going to change was a bad idea unless you were serious about it. Seems as if they havent really changed at all. Oh and poor Jack. Strange how the 102.7 frequency was such a pivital dial for so many years. Now it is only a shell of its former glory. Since the KTFM calls left it, it seems as if no format can really stand up straight on it. Maybe Jack should change dials.

I wouldn't say the market is flooded with Hip Hop. It only has two Hip Hop stations. I'm surprised Power is not doing better. Most markets can support two Hip Hop stations. Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston certainly can. And it looks like Austin can too with Hot 93.3 and Beat 104.9. Even Corpus has Z95 and 102.9 The Bomb.

Cox is a joke. Cox has managed to lose the good people and keep the goofs.

For instance:

Y-100 Like many of rusty walkers stations this one is no different. Weak talent that follows the stringent RULES set forth by Huskey and Company. Same old tired ideas.

Dittos for Majic and Power.

Well this city is not Dallas or Houtson first off. And yes San Antonio is flooded with Hip Hop. At one point you had 3 stations in town playing MIMS THIS IS WHY IM HOT. You had 3 stations playing SMACK THAT BY AKON. I can go on and on. Fact of the matter is that Power and 98.5 the Beat have pretty much the same playlist so to speak. Then with Mix being a top 40 you can catch a few songs on the hip hops playlist coming out of 96.1 so YES the market is flooded with Hip Hop. I am not saying San Antonio cant support 2 Hip Hop stations because it can. Numbers dont lie and obviously Power isnt doing it right. Hot 93.3 is really the only true Hip Hop station in Austin since 104.9 cant even be heard in some parts. So in that sense it is really hard to compare. Same thing is going on with Z95 in Corpus vs 102.9 Da Bomb. Those two stations are nothing like each other. Z95 being a more traditional station where 102.9 acts as a jukebox for the young PD. That is another station with a really bad signal. Good luck catching it when it rains. Also, 102.9 plays more Texas rap and hardcore hip hop than Z95. Which isnt really a bad thing, gives the city variety. But once again hard to compare.

magic beat power in women 18-34. :D that's not even magic's target, but it is power's target.

Have you traveled Texas, MINDonDAradio247 ? If anything San Antonio has fewer rap stations than other major markets. Yes, there are some songs played in SA that fit many formats and Top-40 kind of steps over many format boundaries. But it's not just Mix 96.1, it's like that in any market. Austin's KISS-FM plays hip as well as Hot 93-3 and Beat 104-9. Dallas' KISS-FM plays hip hop that 97.9 The Beat and K 104 plays as well. Or in Houston, KRBE, Party 104.9, and 97.9 The Box all share Akon's "Smack That" or "This Is Why I'm Hot". Stations in Dallas including Jack FM, Mix 102.9, and 106.1 KISS-FM and even 103-7 Lite FM (all in Dallas) all play Rob Thomas music. It's not just the Hip Hop format. It's the music industry in general.

Corpus Christi is a small market that doesn't need strong signals to cover the population. 102.9 The Bomb covers almost the whole city so you can't cross that off as a radio station just because it isn't 100,000 watts like KZFM.

According to the latest book, both stations are down. In fact, Austin #1 station is KHFI- Top 40.

Where's 104.3?

104.3 is now KLQB, La Que Buena, and is a regional Mexican format. It debuted with a 1.9 for the book, although it had been on for only 4 weeks.

Just like David, it switched to a Regional Mexican format. It all started when Entercom sold the 104.3 tower supposely because the signal don't serve the entire Austin area which in fact does serve the area well and in the target areas too. They sold it to Univision and change to Tejano. The urban format on 104.3 was saved by BMP radio and put it on the weak 104.9 signal which made it worst because you can't hear it as much as you could on 104.3. Plus the ratings dropped from a healthy 4 to a depressing 2 because of the signal. The good news is that you can listen to 104.9 online at www.beatatx.com

Actually, Tejano and Regional Mexican are different formats entirely; KXTN in San Antonio is Tejano... KHHL and KLQB are Regioal Mexican. One is Texas music, the other is Mexican.
