I see that the market has returned to it's same old boring self! Is it ripe for some new changes and directions? How is the 92.1 upgrade project going?

I'm curious to find out how/if The Bomb is sounding any different with Pattie Moreno in-house. I'm not too familiar with her work (just know what stations she's programmed), but am curious to see how she goes up against Byron Kennedy. They worked together at the old "PARTY STATION" in Fresno quite a few years back...

Anyone have thoughts on how the Rhythmic battle is shaping up, if at all?

I think all eyes (and ears) should be on The Bomb! Ms. Moreno is a great addition to the team. We, Davey D In The Morning, are ready to go next level and restore ones faith in Sacramento since its "returned to it's boring self". Why do you suggest that it's "returned" to it's same old boring self? Can you elaborate?

Radio in Sacramento, while not necessarily "boring," is hardly the definition of excitement. Mixxula has to be given a free pass on this one, because at least HE'S talking about his own product. You don't see or hear anyone else on this board -- myself included -- shouting out loud about what they're doing in the business right now. And, with good reason: there's been little new or innovative in recent weeks to get excited about.

Will it matter. That station is mostly talentless at this point, since Keith Brooks is gone. And Steve Woods only has a couple of days left. The new guy in PM sounds green like my lawn.

Having worked with Patti at a previous Hip Hop/R&B station, I can attest to her commitment. However the talent pool is where waves really begin to ripple first. She's presided over Budman/Booger at a previous station, and I figure if you can make them work...you can do just about anything. (How are they doing at 102 anyway)

She's big on promotion... and imaging, as all good PD's should be. If the DJ's aren't used to going out and doing remotes... then they should get ready too.

Having been a former KSFM employee yearsssss ago, I would love nothing more than to see "da BOMB" run circles around them. But all bias aside, maybe Davey D can bring back Ebro... (flashbacks) just a thought!

new changes and directions??

So, I'm curious...what in everyone's oppinion would be "new changes and directions"?

I think it will be cool to see the launch of commercial HD in Sacto. I'm even slightly more interested to see what format ends up on the HD-2's of Y92.5 and V101.1... Any thoughts?<P ID="signature">______________

Country and Sports...two formats in this market that need improvement.

Unfortunately, they don't HAVE to improve. They can remain mediocre since they have no competition raising the bar.

Funny, just this morning I tried to listen to KNCI. I think they played all of one song the entire hour. Most of what I heard was either a commercial or P&T talking. I think these guys are great but they need to cut out some of the chatter and play a song or two every once in awhile. If I didn't any know better, I wouldn't have known it was a country station.

I don't think (for a long time at least) we're going to see ANY HD-2's trying to compete with a 50kW analog FM like KNCI.

Is another country station in Sacatomatoes going to make you want to drop coin on an HD radio? I would think they'd try something more compelling.

Wouldn't it be cool to see Y92.5 HD-2 with Traditional Jazz and V101.1 HD-2 with Classic Hip Hop or Disco 70's.

CC will probably launch a format that can be formatted locally (or remotely, really doesn't matter) that they're doing somewhere else. I wouldn't bet on Country although Sports or some kind of a additional Newstalk simulcast will probably pop up on the HD-3's when they launch.

I'm glad you asked. I was wondering what that meant myself.

This isn't happening any time soon. Billing is up on Y92 and while V101 isn't selling anywhere near where it should, there might be some changes ahead to improve that. But the formats will stay the same.

If there are any new formats to be added to the CC fold, it'll happen if and when they buy another stick, and if Entravision sells (as they are rumored to be dumping their poorly run radio division), 101.9 would be quite an addition. Format: the smart money says Spanish. We'll see.

101.9 would be a good catch for CC Sac. We'll see what happens down the road...

As far as a format change, I certainly wasn't insinuating that Y92.5 or V101.1 were going to change formats. With the launch of IBOC on Y92.5 and V101.1, I was more curious what format they were planning on putting on the HD-2 signal on each stick.

Ah, my mistake... yes, the 101.9 stick is a good one. Too bad Entravision can't seem to make any money off it.

Re: new changes and directions??

Unfortunately, they don't HAVE to improve. They can remain mediocre since they have no competition raising the bar.

Therein lies the bane of radio's existence, giving rise to the opposite contention: the unwillingness to spend the money to beat them, even if they're both beatable products (which they are).
