Sacramento Rock And Radio Museum

I have heard of, but not been to, this museum, and I and another music
nut plan to visit it before the 51s/RiverCats ballagme Saturday night...
Steve Michaels and others have mentioned this to me long ago...

Lisa Heyamoto spoke of it in today's (4/10) edition of "that major
metroplitan newspaper," aka Da Bee, second item down:

"...the Sacramento Rock and Radio Museum will be open for business this
Second Saturday.

Didn't know it existed? Neither do most people, says curator Dennis Newhall,
but that hasn't stopped it from being more crowded than the smoking section
of a Lynyrd Skynyrd show..."

I've been there a few times. It's located inside the Nakamoto recording studio (20th/Ist), which creates many of the radio spots here in Sacramento. It is often open during the "Second Saturday" events (such as this Saturday). The museum contains many great posters of bands and radio stations. One recording studio is called the "AM Studio" and contains many artifacts from the old KROY and KNDE stations as well as others. The other studio is called the "FM Studio" and contains some FM102 and KZAP things.

It's definitely worth a visit--very cool place.

A coupla times for me...yes, great place to kill a few hours. Hung out and chatted with Tom Buck, a great guy (both of us ex-1380ers) and went thru the binder with all the old KROY Tunedexes...whew! It was amazing the amount of talent that went thru that li'l 1,000-watter (250 at night).

There's also live entertainment out on the sidewalk, though I don't know if that's every night they open it up for the walkthrus. Highly recommend!

Interesting to visit. I guess I'll see promotion material and gold records of Tesla, Spiral Staircase, Ohleander, and Steel Breeze.
