Sacramento Talk Radio Fading Into Silence

In case you miss the print article in "that major metropolitan
newspaper" today (4/15/08), here's the URL:

http://www.sacbee.com/entertainment/story/861731.html

Some very interesting comments have been posted on this Bee
link regards the state of talk radio in the Capitol City (as one
poster mentioned, I also miss the MOR music on KCTC 1320)...
not to mention one or two other posts here at R-I, as I've
noticed...

I forgot about (Sean) Morton Downey Jr. being at KFBK.
Downey may have been vitrolic on radio/TV ("ZIP IT, PAL!"), but
at least he wasn't a bad country singer in the '70s/early-'80s,
though...

Thanks for the link Jay. I really enjoyed reading the comments after the article, especially this one from a former Sacatomatoan who now lives in the South...

"If the rest of the country knew just how many of you listen to the same rightwing BS all day and all evening, with repeats of Limbaugh no less, that so many out here do. "Y'all" would be right at home out here - all that's missing is the accent, and that will come with time. Just hop in your pickups, head east, and grab a confederate flag sticker when you stop for gas and a Big Gulp somewhere around Oklahoma."

It says a lot about our community. But the big relief is that it continues to decline (talk radio). That's why Bk has gone from a solid 12 share back in the 90's, and now struggles for a 7-8. I call it the Monica Lewinsky/Iraqi War paradox. Sex with an intern vs. thousands dead and tens of thousands wounded, and that's not mentioning the husbands, wives, parents and children now living without their loved ones. :'( Plus 2 BILLION dollars spent everyday on a war without merit. And add to that the fact that we're in debt up to our ears, and that 2 billion is being borrowed from the Arabs and from China. It's no wonder Bushie didn't want to boycott the Olympics.

Sensiblity just may be sinking in.

Perhaps this belongs in another new thread, S5C, but as in independent who
has a disdain for both major parties, I wish comic/author/actor Lewis Black
were a radio talk-show host...he, like me, questions "authority," no matter
the party affiliation...

To wit, Black says the dumbest thing ever said by a president was this:
in response to those overseas-entities (Bin Laden, et al) threatening harm to
the U.S., Prez Bush boldly replied, "BRING IT ON!"...

Thanks for the article. I, too, had no idea that Morton Downey was a host here in Sacramento. I've also heard that Bernie Ward hosted a KFBK slot before his demise at KGO.....

I had the great good fortune to do Morton Downey's T.V. riotous show in Seacaucus NJ... He was curious about my Supreme Court case..They screened the audience through a metal detector..I had no idea that he had once worked at KFBK at the time. He was hysterically funny and believe it or not we ended up liking each other.. I also replaced Bernie at KFBK many moons ago and even beat him in the afternoon ratings...

I'm in at KGO for next two weeks 10p to 1a starting april 21. ..the day of the Pennsylvnia primary...exciting times..
