Philly Inquirer TV columnist Gail Shister reports today that 6ABC reporter Michelle McCormack exits tomorrow to assume an anchor position in a midwest market. I always enjoyed her energetic reports, especially when Philly sports teams were involved. She knew when to keep it serious on breaking news stories and light when covering Eagles playoff parties. She will be missed, in my humble opinion.

This clearly must be a personal lifestyle decision. You do not leave Philadelphia to go to a small Midwestern market. Regardless. Good luck MM.

What kind of sad news is this?
I was expecting something like Lisa Thomas Laury was dead or something earth shattering.
Michelle McCormack going to anchor in Milwaukee, that is a step up for her and good news.

Not Sad for Michelle

What are you talking about? Milwaukee (market rank 33)is hardly a SMALL midwestern market. Did you think she was going to North Platte, Nebraska or something?

She is a street reporter in Philly. Often moving to anchoring requires starting over at a smaller market. Anchors in "smaller" markets often make more than street reporters in bigger ones. Look at how much turn-over there is for street reporters in this town. That's how the biz works. And apparently, channel six management was not going to give her a chance to go for the brass ring. If you are not Ken or Barbie, forget it.

I agree, becoming an anchor for a network affiliate in a big city like Milwaukee could open up several future doors for her in other markets as well. It is a big step up from street reporter, who is seen on TV occassionally.

My Michelle experience

The night Mark McGwire broke the home run record while playing for the Cardinals was the night I had my experience dealing with Michelle McCormack.

The same night of the record-breaking home run in Saint Louis, I was covering the Phillies game at Veterans Stadium for WILM. Phillies rookie Marlon Anderson (who is now with the Mets) hit two home runs in that game, his major league debut. But it seemed like the World stopped when McGwire hit the record-breaking home run in Saint Louis.

After the game during the media availability, all the local TV stations sent cameras over to get interviews. The LOCAL story that night was about Marlon Anderson hitting two home runs in his first major league game. But not according to Michelle. She had no clue about what happened in the Phillies game. She asked Marlon what he thought about McGwire breaking the home run record! I couldn't believe she asked him that. As soon as he answered her question, I stepped in and said "Enough about another baseball team Marlon, let's talk about you and your night..." then Marlon answered all the questions I asked him about his night. Michelle rolled her eyes at me and stormed off. In my opinion, it was stupid for her to even be covering sports, since she's not a sports reporter...and it was even more stupid to ask a Phillies rookie who had a great night at the plate (hitting two home runs), about another player on another team. The baseball story that night in Philadelphia was about Marlon Anderson and not Mark McGwire. Sheer stupidity in my opinion.

In your dreams! You'd need more than liquor and rubber balls.

Re: My Michelle experience

Bob: I second that statement as well! She is a beautiful woman, but absolutely no brains at all.

Which makes her perfect for a mid-size city anchor spot, where the lines will be fed to her, she'll look good, sound good, and leave the "on location" spots for people who are better suited to handle them!!!
