Tom Busch, former Chief Engineer and General Manager of the first U.S. Catholic radio station, KNOM, Nome, died this morning at his home in Anchorage. He was 63. Tom was among the original crew of volunteers who built KNOM in 1971 and served as General Manager/Chief Engineer from about 1974-2004 when he began devoting full time to fund raising and moved to Alaska's largest city, some 800 miles from Nome. He returned to Nome each month to keep the facilities in good condition and had been there last week for several days. Medical examiner says apparent heart attack while asleep. A good was to go but though on the survivors!
