Sad News From The Range In Dallas

Some of you may know,,,some may not. Dave Banar, aka Dave Avery or David James, as he's known on this board, passed away unexpectedly yesterday in Dallas. Dave was doing mornings at 95.3 The Range and loving it. I, along with my best friend, Sean Ericson, worked with Dave in Lufkin at CC for several years and enjoyed many beers with him....some of those beers in the lobby of the station, between midnight and 6am after someone didn't show up for a shift. Those were good times. This is extremely sad for all of us that knew Dave. He was only 35. Dave loved radio, and he loved Texas/Red Dirt music. He was one of the genres biggest champions. All the years that I've known Dave he always had a big smile on his face, and enjoyed having a good time. Whether you knew Dave or not, hoist an icy cold one for him this weekend. He was a good friend, and a great radio guy. He'll be sorely missed. Next round is on me Dave.

There will be a memorial for Dave at Love & War in Plano at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 12th. Here is the official notice from the station:

"Metro Broadcasters, Inc., parent company of KHYI-FM, 95.3 The Range, and KXEZ-FM, 92.1 The Possum, is saddened to announce the untimely passing of Range morning show personality, Dave Avery. Dave had been on air at the Range since January 1st of 2007 and, although he was a part of the Range staff for only a short time, he will be deeply missed.

Dave began his broadcast career at KSAU-FM while attending Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. After obtaining a Communications degree, he continued his Radio career at a variety of stations across Texas including KHMX-FM/Houston, KTXN-FM/Victoria, KBSO-FM/Corpus Christi, and KHTZ-FM/Bryan-College Station.

Dave was an enthusiastic fan of Texas music, championing the artists and format throughout his career. His passion for Texas performers and their music will not soon be forgotten.

The staff of KHYI-FM, 95.3 The Range, and Metro Broadcasters sincerely regrets the loss of our broadcast colleague."
