Sad news...Ron Michaels passes

Just got a call that Ron Michaels passed away this morning.

Ron was one of the FM100 gang from the old days. Although we were friends, there are a couple of others that post on this board that were much closer than I was and I feel sure they will add to this thread.

Ron has been sick for years and put up a courageous fight til the end.

Ron "Scoop" Michaels.................RIP

Oh gosh, that is indeed sad news, especially with the interest the 1967 FM100 thread has been generating the past few days. Thanks for all the years of great music Ron. You were greatly appreciated by a lot of young listeners like myself.

I just went to Ron's house and spent time with his daughter and her fiance. Then I stopped by his Mom's and spent time with her.

It's very sad for all of us.

Ron was excited about the FM-100 40 year post on this website. Like all of us, he found it amazing that anyone would remember or care about us or what we did 40 years ago.

I'm sure we'll all post more stuff here as time goes by....just not right now. Ron was a good man...and a great friend. We're going to miss him.

Truly sad news, for sure.

Ron was my next door neighbor during my early formative years in radio. He, the widely known personality; me, the obscure fledgling. Seeing his accomplishments and hearing him every morning at the breakfast table on WMC-AM helped inspire me to stick with my new career. I still have many of the old LPs he gave me from his days in rock 'n roll.

He was a good broadcaster, a good man, and a good neighbor. I regret that I had not seen him since leaving Memphis.

My sincere condolences to all for this loss.

I talked to Ron almost every night on the phone (or when he was up to it) and he was truely one of my best friends. I will miss the litttle bitty buddy a heck of a lot. Count your blessings daily! Prayers to Ron's family.

My phone rang on Sunday and it was Jon telling me of Ron Michaels passing. Ofcourse I'd known of his medicial condition over the past several decades, but that never stopped Ron Michaels in his persuit of broadcast excellence. He never showed weakness or complained about his condition. As Jon and I continued to talk, we reminisced about the good old days. The three of us had experienced lots together and how we were such party animials during that period. Suddenly my throat tightend and my eyes became filled with tears.

Just over the past two years Ron and I had become reacquainted and began sending each other various photos and music from that era. He sent me the FM-100 live broadcast from Ardent Recording Studio of Don Nix-Larry Raspberry & The Highsteppers Review. He was in the booth during that show while Mike Powell emceed. Ron Michaels loved the Radio and Music industry. I remember at his residence he always had several police scanners so he could always monitor news events. If I recall correctly, Ron met his wife over the FM-100 request line.

God rest his soul.

Our "little bitty buddy's" funeral was yesterday and, as there should have been, there was a great turnout. Several eulogies were given, all heartfelt, and all true. Ron will be truly missed by his family and friends.
