Saga Asheville

I understand Saga Asheville has brought in a new PD. Bob Lawrence from CC Charlotte. Wonder if he'll actually get to do anything. I hear ole Steve Goldstein even picks the music for them.

Hey .. if it works don't knock it! Saga has a great reputation of winning and continues to be a major player in these economic times and their stock continues to lead the pack .. if a guy in the corporate office can increase ratings and be on top of his game by picking the music .. great! What's the difference in this and what CC has done for years .. at lease the management at Saga are broadcasters and believe in local radio!

LOL! I guess your right $3 a share beats $.50 a share!!! Radio is imploding!!

Hey Moonshine, do you work for Saga? There is no difference in what they do and Clear Channel, Entercom, or the rest. My point is, if you aren't going to let the PD program, then don't hire him! Don't bring him in there and not let him do his job. IF he can't do it, then get rid of him. We see this now more and more over the last 15 years.

Good point .. I agree Z-100 .. however there are lots of things for a program director to do other than just music .. but I agree with you point .. the PD should have the authority and the ability to handle music! And NO I do not work for CC .. in a weak moment I did but not for long. Enjoy the day.

That's actually Mike Berlak, from Charlotte and others.... BTW the 'Stein is our VP of Programming and like all vp's has his input but it's up to each market to make their call for what's right for the station. In the short term I ran the station I added several tunes none of which SG picked. It's not an all shit world people....not everywhere anyway.

I think local pd's are a thing of the past. Corporate PD's are who call the shots now. Just ask the guys at Citadel in the Tri-Cities....You are bound and gagged. Just sign the paycheck and keep the EEO up to date. Maybe sweep the floor once in a while....Hey, does Saga own WOXL? John Tesh sounds better in the evening than Delilah. Useful info is better than sappy love stories, ick! B97-5 in Knocksville has him on overnights.

Mike is a good guy. You can bet he will be running the show. I'm sure they had to pay some good money to get his services. Mike knows how to win.
