Saga in Keene all FMs HD!

HD is now on all Saga's FMs in Keene. 8)

When are the HD2s coming?

This is the best news that I've heard in years for the Keene market. I'll be sure to tune in asap. By the way, what programs are on HD2?

Let us know when the press release goes out, I can't wait to see how the news moves the stock price.

Merry Christmas,

Who REALLY Cares?

It actually IS big news. A market the size of Keene, NH (it's not really even a market) to have such deep HD penetration and future HD2's it a remarkable thing. With them, the 2 VPR stations and WEVN in HD, this is a good thing. Ira, their chief worked real hard on the HD project and it is something to be proud of.

Now it's time for bigger market FMs not in HD to step up to the digital plate.

I agree with Necreat123.. Nice to see HD in Keene. Not sure how many, if any, commercial Vermont stations are in HD. I had heard some rumbles that WEZF and Champ 101.3 are working on the project. I would think that WEQX may be moving into the HD arena as well. Rutland, nyet..

I suppose for 'radio geeks' this is cool.....but for most listeners....they dont care or even know what this means. 5 years from now when they actually have HD radios.....great but now it just means.......uh.....cool...I guess.

It has a lot of BIASED info, and is the same crap that we see over and over again by someone else.
There is another forum on here for the Anti/Pro HD discussion, not this one.

BACK TO THE SUBJECT OF THIS THREAD. It is good to see the Saga FMs in HD, complimenting the NHPR and VPR ones. Jojo, WEZF won't do HD anytime soon as I understand it, unless something has changed. If I were to guess, they would go HD when they move to the new VPR panel antenna on Mansfield.

The first commercial VT FM to go HD, IF I were a betting man, would be WKVT-FM in Brattleboro, following in the footsteps of it's sisters in Keene.

The Champ (WCPV) and The Zone (WXZO) both are in a really really remote location in New York (Rattlesnake Mtn, I was up there with Glen Dudley two years ago) with little room for any changes, so I would be surprised if they went HD anytime soon, but I guess stranger things have happened, no?

Bias? I don't know. I mean I was in Boston a few days ago and HD radio didn't work well. The terrestrial stations in digital sounded tinny and (from what I hear) the side channels "buffered" more than an internet station on a dial up.

I think retail will kill HD. Do you know anywhere that an HD radio can be purchased? What about iPods or MP3 players? A bit of a difference there...... the 'you know what' will hit the fan after Christmas when HD radio fails to move any units.

I heard that QVC tried to sell some and that was a bust too. Do you know anything about that? People just are not buying them.

I live in the Boston area and have a home HD receiver. The stations sound no more "tinny" in HD than in analog. There may be somewhat sharper high-end response in some cases, but there's no less low end. I have occasionally gotten "buffering" pauses on some of the HD-2 channels, but not very often.

Ah, HD...or as I like to call it, "AM Stereo 2.0". Another non-starter for an industry that has a long line of them.

Here's a fact: it's dead, and the stench is becoming harder to conceal. Listeners don't care - and don't understand - what HD radio is, and frankly, who is buying radios anyway? When did you last buy one? HD was beaten to the punch by the internet and iPods/other mp3 players. Befitting of history, radio blew it in deciding where/when/how to extend their brands.

The other side of it is that broadcasters are not going to make an investment in the new brands that the "channels between the channels" creates the opportunity for. Hell, radio companies won't even invest in the core product, so why would anyone think that they'll put anything even remotely compelling on side channels?

Here's an idea: Forget the HD debacle and invest in the talent and technologies that matter. Oh wait. We're talking about radio here.

Just my 2.0 cents...

IMO, for sound quality of music formats, HD radio was beaten by satellite radio. I myself own a Sirius and would not invest in an HD radio for the very reason indicated: management won't put any better effort into programming them as they do now.
