SAGA INVADES OHIO????

I heard today that Saga plans to pick up the entire state of Ohio's CC Selloffs except Sandusky, Lima and Ashtabula. The little birdie told me that Sandusky is being sought after from the local company who also shares a license in Erie County and Ashtabula will be part of the same people who own stations in Jamestown New York. I dont know about Lima, so thats anyones guess.

Does that include the two Dayton properties CC needs to spin off? One of them is virtually useless (106.5,) and assuming the other is Channel 94-5, that would be useless as well.
Also, I believe Forever owns the stations in Jamestown.

I've heard conflicting stories about a CC selloff of two Dayton properties; that it may not even need to happen. I can't imagine anyone buying 94.5 as a standalone unless its an outlet like EMF.

WHat about Lima, Defiance, Findlay, Chillicothe ??? And which stations will be picked up in Ohio?
When???

I hear that Saga offered a chunk of change for

MANSFIELD
MARION (including WMRN)
CHILLICOTHE
FINDLAY
DEFIANCE

And then for Elyria Lorain

SANDUSKY

Must not forget about Media One Group of Jamestown

ASHTABULA

Of course, this is only speculation.

Bond- James Bond

007 Broadcasting is also making a move on several of these markets.

I did hear about another company,

but who is 007 Broadcasting?

While Saga is in Columbus and a few other big markets, the company basically buys smaller market
stations. So I don't see them entering markets such as Dayton or Cincinnati (unless they change strategies).

Youngstown, Marion, Mansfield, etc would seem to fit their playbook. And frankly, they're a pretty good operator, and a pretty good company to work for.

Why not? They're in markets like Columbus, DesMoines, and Milwaukee.

Just a minor note... I'm pretty sure Youngstown was not included in the list of CC's market selloff, despite the fact that they are below the magic market #100 number... CC's Youngstown cluster seems to be pretty profitable, at least judging by how nice their facilities seem to be.

I don't really know too much about Saga as a company, but if they're wanting to expand, Ohio might be a nice place to start...

No on Sandtown? I heard there were 3 parties interested.

ELYRIA LORAIN
MEDIA ONE OF JAMESTOWN
SAGA COMMUNICATIONS

So that would narrow it down to 2?

Thanks for the props, they are much appreciated.

Yes...and those are the biggest markets they are in. More often than naught, Saga buys stations in smaller markets such as Champaign and Springfield (Illinois), Mitchell (South Dakota), Portland (Maine), Yankton (South Dakota), and Spencer (Iowa), just to name a few.

Don't get me wrong...I was not suggesting the company would never entertain a move into bigger markets. But, they tend to focus more on acquisitions in smaller towns. And, I reiterate, they're a pretty good company for which to
work.

If Media One does buy Sandtown, it will be the THIRD time they have owned it. They had it in the 80's and sold it, bought it back in the early 90's and sold it again in '97 to Jacor.

Bas Communications of Fremont already in talks with someone for swapping 92.1 and 100.9.

Erie Communications used to own RQK too if I am not mistaken. They left the business, found some investors and now in Jamestown. Even more interesting information for your ears, guess who is an investor in BAS Communications?

This does not make any sense. WOHF has a far superior signal than WMJK. WOHF has a 60dbu contour that covers both Sandusky and Norwalk. WMJK's does not. This would make it a bad trade and would not of any benefit to BAS. Thus it does not seem likely.

Normally I would agree and say this doesnt make sense. But then again, we are talking about Bas Communications. Here is the deal. BAS wants WTTF. If they get WTTF, WMJK it will make for a stronger Fremont/Tiffin Cluster which is exactly what they are going for. WOHF s a red headed step child because they like Sandusky, but realize its just not the direction they are headed. Owning Sandusky and Seneca Counties is their goal!

Just like in Mount Vernon. All they want to do is own Knox County.

Neither WMJK or WOHF have a 60dbu contour which reach Tiffin. Kind of hard to serve a community where you cannot provide more a distant signal at best. Also WMJK is part of the Sandusky cluster already and has an identity and marketing presence there. Why tehn also would WOHF bill itself as Bellvue/Sandusky?

all of this is interesting speculation...........but i'm willing to bet that....excpet for the fact that youngstown is NOT ON THE LIST (old news), it is only speculation........

nobody knows for sure............some nice tries on this board though........if you had somebody bite you may have had something going.

Has there been any offers on the other clear channel stations in ohio?
