Sage ENDEC Messages

I occasionally get the following messages on my ENDEC from my LP-1 and LP-2 stations:

The Civil Authorities have issued an ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE for (List of Counties) Beginning at (TIME) and ending at (TIME)
Timed Ignore alert has timed out

The Civil Authorities have issued an UNKNOWN EVENT [CAE] for (List of Counties) Beginning at (TIME) and ending at (TIME)
Timed Ignore alert has timed out

Any idea what these messages mean? Also, do they have to be logged along with the regular weekly and monthly tests?

It could be that your Endec unit does not have the latest up to date programming in it which would include newer alert codes, so the unit prints it as an Unknown Event.
You should be able to determine the firmware version number and then contact the support folks for further followup.
Keep in mind we keep hearing of the up and coming new units with the CAP protocol.
I've seen one at an SBE meeting last year and like everyone else has been told that once the FCC approves the transition to CAP and publishes it in the Federal Register that every station will have to install a new EAS unit within 6 months, but don't have any further clues as to when that will actually happen.

No upgrade for existing units with software? or is this the new trend...you have to spend money to upgrade to a newer worthless system everytime someone in DC decides to allow a company to scam all of us??

You (or whomever was chief at your facility at the time) were required to upgrade your ENDEC for the new event codes back in 2003. So, your facility has been non-compliant since then.

The CAE event is a "Child Abduction Emergency", or in layman's terms, an AMBER Alert. You need to be forwarding these events.

Contact Harris or SCMS to get the version 6.1 PROMS for your ENDEC. They're not expensive.

And yes, you need to be logging the events in the operator log.

First, there was CONELRAD, circa 1950's,...then EBS....Now EAS. No System was reliable, and all relied on over the air relay. As a rare bird that has been subjected
to all three systems what motivation do I have to accept the next "happening" will be better. Especially when the complexity and expense and record keeping increases at every level....and at the expense of wireless carriers (give the other media it's due, too!).
This is, indeed, a solution for a problem that does not exist, in this day of so much media at all levels....BUT, not to worry...we bear the burden!. ...not the regulators...End of sermon...JBI

And an Amen to that brother.

Thank you all for your help. All i need now is for the station engineer to take care of it!

When the info is available, please make sure he does the change promptly, or else the next scheme will be in the pipeline before he is thru! JBI

That one that says "CAE" is an Amber Alert (Child Abduction Emergency), but the other "Admin" message may just be a RWT from the local Emergency Ops Center or similar source.

You probably should not have the "Timed Ignore" timeout set on the CAE. It's usually something you want to immediately forward, if only for the public relations value of it all.
