Salado, TX

Last week I was in Salado, TX (north of Austin) for a memorial service. I took my Sangean 505 along to do some listening in the evening. I had to try for 1190 KEX after Salado sunset. Of course I did not expect to hear KEX, and I didn't. Instead, after sunset the dominate station was KQQZ from Desto, MO. with 22 watts. A couple of other stations were heard underneath at times, one of them a weak KFXR from Dallas, the other was Spanish.
I was surprised that I could not get any stations from the west coast, not even KFI or KNX.
