I have a friend that was offered a daily night show on a major company station last year in Dallas. They originally offered him 25K, he turned it down, they came back with 28K. He said no thanks. He just took a job in a market between 25-35 for 45K with full moving expenses and it's no where near the size of the company he turned down! Go figure.

Bigger market doesn't always = bigger paycheck. There are tons of folks in less than major markets cashing major paychecks...especially in mornings.

Neet post. i always wondered what the salary range was for some of the bigger guys in the dfw market like on the morning and afternoon slots. I heard chapman was well in the millions at the time he retired. Any other million plus salary pullers on the local level?

My last job in a rated market was in Amarillo... 1988 (yeah, long time ago). I was afternoon drive, sports director, production director, and assistant chief engineer. for that work, my pay was approximately $21K. That works out to about $37K in 2006 dollars.

I have heard that the Metro traffic people make somewhere in that vicinity, but that is definitely unverified. If so, those are some very sad figures.

Chapman was in the million; not millions. Russ Martin, Terry Dorsey and maybe Mark Davis are in that territory now.

I've bet Kraddick is up there too...

I know of guys in 50+ markets making 100K + for afternoon drive plus endorsements and bonuses...local legend types....very rare birds indeed..

Terry Dorsey as of a few years ago: 1.4 Million but he pays hawkeye 200K, and Brother Van 50K

Bobby Mitchell was making 500K when he was fired. Cody makes 200K

Jody Dean makes a fraction of what Chapman made.

I forgot to list Kidd. He's definitely in that territory. Medium-to-large market "local legends" that are the mainstay of their stations can do VERY well; especially considering the generally lower cost-of-living.

And what's wrong with that? CHapman was probably the highest pid jock ever in this mrket. He was here 67947097307 years.

JohnQ,

Did i say anything was wrong with that? Stop jumping to conclusions.
