Sale of WHAT

I heard on the 11:00 news last night on Channel 6 that 1340 AM WHAT has been sold. They said that all the current air staff, including Mary Mason, was fired and the new format will be some kind of blues music from a network. I turned on WHAT last night just to see what was on, fully expecting blues music as was said on the news. Instead, I heard jockless music with a recored ID every few songs that said "WHAT 1340 Philadelphia, Playing the best music of the 1800s, 1900s, and today!" In one set they went from the Monkees' to a hip hop record of some type to a big band number to "Margaretaville" to some current music. I assume this is some kind of stunt until they establish their new format? Anyone know anything? I know I'm dreaming, but I'd love to have classic oldies 1340, a philly version of ocean City's 1340 WMID!

I just heard them go from Jay-Z, to Herb Alpert, to Mitch Miller, to Kylie Minogue, to Jimmy Buffett!!! I heard them playing that Party Blues & Oldies format last week. Was that dumped already?

Geez, why change now? Mary Mason was not one of the worlds best broadcaster by any stretch of the imagination, but over the last 45 years or so, she seemed to have a small, but rabidly loyal following. For decades, my Dad would not start his Sunday without listening to her gospel show. What in the world could you do with this 1KW signal in today's world that would get more than the 1 share they have consistantly scored over the last 30 years?

Yep, It is! I've been out of Philly for the last 25 years, but I still follow the happenings, from here in Orlando, on this board. BTW, do I know you???
