Salem Broadcasting Buys The Earth!!

Not good for EARTH. 99.9% of the time, Salem changes their acquisitions to religious/Christian or conservative talk format. I suspect they might move talk to 103.3 and put a Christian Contemporary or CHR format on 94.5 or maybe put it on 103.3. I just don't think it's likely for Earth to continue.

I thought about that too but it's kind of odd that they sold out then. At least from the 12+ numbers, it seemed to be doing well. Guess sales didn't come along with it?

Sounds like Salem came along and offered the Earth owners money they couldn't refuse. They made $100k off of it, that's not horrible. It gave some long-time personalities a last chance to play radio, and management will clean up a bit. I think the format had a chance, but unfortunately it wasn't focused well enough (hearing something from the late 50s and then something from the mid-80s just doesn't sound right).

Love and Hudson were part of the management and owners. Love, Hudson, and Bob Nations all put up the same amount of money and were equal owners.

I emailed Lee Alexander the Mid Morning to Mid Afternoon Host he reply back to my email said that the Earth FM Format will stay same on wolt-fm 103.3.

but who know it what will take place later down the road on 103.3 WOLT-FM

from looking at salem commications website they have stations with other radio format also http://salem.cc/stationcat/other-formats/

Hmm. Yeah, I don't know if a staffer would let the cat out of the bag even if they knew a format change was coming with the sale (especially in a direct email like that). But we'll wait and see.

Well...

My sense is that Earth has done very well. It's local. The music is good. The personalities are good. And they get results for advertisers - support is strong. That said, I'm not naive. I sense I will be removing the station from my presets soon enough. Sad.

bob nations wanted to flip a house and make some money. he did 103.3 bought it on the cheap and sold it for more than it was worth to salem. like many. salem makes money off signals in markets. not how successful they are.

I heard Bill Love say this morning on the radio say they will be moving to another location. but he didn't say where. he said they will be moving equiptment also. so i guess they be moving to another radio dial frequency.

Well,...Reportedly, it is not Salem, but a (new) small subsidiary thereof, that will be calling the major shots, and making sure that the bills are paid. Other than that, it's truely Status Quo for The EARTH. Christian ownership does not have a problem with any(aquired) secular product, as long as it turns a profit, while not offending the general public. There are alotta Smarts under the Salem umbrella!

Hey, Bill Love here. I just came across the discussion of the sale and I wanted to give you the info. WOLT is being sold to Salem Communications. The company that someone said would be calling the shots is Caron Broadcasting. I believe that's right. All of these big companies have groups of stations owned by subsidiaries. For instance, when I was with Clear Channel my w-2 was actually from Capstar, a subsidiary of Clear Channel. We have never been secretive about our plans. We will have a classic hits format. I can't say that we won't change some things as far as music and imaging, but the format stays. As far as the sign goes, we have moved into the building with WGTK. That sign has been up since they went on the air. I'm sure we will have one of ours up soon. I was going to take it down but it's glued on pretty good. If you think you see or hear of any other clues just call me. I had people tell me that there are many clues that say the station will be this or that. It's just radio, not Sgt. Pepper. One other thing, I think that at this time Salem it the best radio company, to work for, in the country. I feel very lucky.
