depends....the culture is usually good, but like any radio company revenue drives everything.
Have seen enough people fall victim to "budget" cutbacks because of revenue goals not being met.
Radio is radio no matter where you work.

It depends on how high up on the food chain you are. You are just one shareholders' meeting away from getting the ax. But, as an earlier poster said, all radio is like this now. (I have worked for CC, Cox, and various other companies that have been absorbed...and Salem) It is sad.

What I meant when I said it was "sad" was that it is too bad that radio seems to be less about how good you are at your job, and more about pleasing shareholders and the bottom line. I understand business, so please spare me the reminder about "that's how business is." I get that. I just wish that the people who were fired were fired because they stunk at their job rather than continuous budget cuts.

Well... I'm confused. Because I think that part of "getting it" is understanding the bottom line.
If people stunk at their jobs, I'd venture to guess they wouldn't have them to begin with.
I guess I just don't see it as "sad", or suprising. I don't really see how we can complain about companies that protect their profits or interests? Don't we all manage our money?
Perhaps (?) we are spoiled in this nation. But thank God we live in one where we can choose were we want to work and what we want to do...even with job loss or lay off.
Just my opinion.

If people stunk at their jobs, I'd venture to guess they wouldn't have them to begin with.

Without waxing melancholy about where the business had turned since telecom in '96 [that's really another thread topic, folks], I can tell you firsthand that Salem has treated me LIGHT YEARS better as a person than my experience with Westwood, Greater, Barnstable, Infinity, Universal, & various mom & pop's. This includes unsolicited offers of promotion from within, being treated professionally, not getting killed after making an embarrassing mistake, a truly caring team, & Christmas parties where our spouses are included & babysitting is provided.
Money is what it is, so I know there are probably better paying jobs around. But I WAS asked when my last raise occurred, then got a slight bump in pay [& I'm just a part-timer]. And the 401K matching beats anything I've seen elsewhere, with part-timers eligible as well as full-timers. In 2003, I heard that Salem's jocks in Hawaii didn't need to work multiple jobs, & things are expensive out there.
And if you're fortunate to be in this business & actually HAVE anything to invest, then I think they're probably okay [though I'm basically a financial illiterate]. I've seen gradual, deliberate expansion.
