Salem flip-flops 101.5 & 92.7's programming and tells almost no one

This morning, WLQV's programming for unknown reasons migrated from 92.7 to 101.5, while WDTK's programming migrated from 101.5 to 92.7.

Salem owns both stations.

They obviously value their listeners (sarcasm), because zero mention of the shift was made on WDTK's web site and Facebook page.

What a well run operation!

It was on air on at least one station... saw a DXer mention it in a post a few weeks ago

Perhaps this is another sign of Salem's intention of primarily focusing on politics going forward. That's definitely their future growth engine it seems. Neither of these translators are great, but 92.7 is a lot better than 101.5.

On the other hand, 1500, even though it is directional, is a lot better and higher powered than 1400, so maybe swapping the translators is just an attempt to even them out and make 1400 a bigger player since it needs more help.

Also, if you go to 1400's website, 1400 AM isn't even mentioned. It's all "92.7" branding. The Patriot's social pages though still have 101.5 and 1400 logos, no mention of 92.7 at all.

Lastly, wasn't 1400 originally on 92.7 many years ago?

101.5's coverage in Wayne County has always magically been far better than what predicted coverage plots have indicated. I'll let readers draw their own conclusions as to how that's possible.

They havent updated parts of their website in ahwile

I'm not from the area, and I haven't been to Detroit in a few years at least, but it seems most of the translators in that area are purposely directional, mostly away from Downtown Detroit. I guess they dont want any signal going into Canada? Perhaps 93.5 and 98.3 have the best translator signals around there? And 96.7 for WCHB in seems pointless with the Canadian Signal on the Same Channel. Or is some of this into outdated?

That's correct; the nulls are in place to minimize encroachment into Canada. 93.5 and especially 98.3 far & away have the best signals in Downtown Detroit.

You are absolutely right that the translator for AM 1340 at 96.7 MHz absolutely stinks. Once one gets just a few miles from the translator's TX site, its a signal battle between that station and CHYR for many miles. The interference zone is easily 20x the size of the area where the translator can be heard well. In most of that same zone, CHYR could previously be heard well on car radios and even some indoor radios. CHYR used to cume about 75,000 to 100,000 listeners a week in the Detroit metro.

None of the translators reach the full metro area effectively.

Wow, didn't notice this, but even further interference on 96.7 comes from WNUC-LP which isn't far from Downtown Detroit. Perhaps that signal is strong enough to interfere even in Windsor, part of CHYR's home area. CHYR has their 60dbu contour reaching at least 5 miles into the US, so I wonder how that was even allowed, but no other adjacent channel was. Perhaps CHYR is nearly completely blocked now in Most of Metro Detroit (on the US Side).

The reason i mention and find it interesting is that I remember years ago reading about another station from Ohio complained and got a local station thrown off (I think it was 104.7 in Toledo). But it seem 96.7 is now such a very interference prone channel with 3 stations within 30 miles between Windsor and Detroit, more than 104.7 was, I wonder if that option is better now if someone moved there, even just north of DTW.

Remember, Canadian stations' signals have no protection on U.S. soil and vice versa. This is why the LPFM @ 96.7 MHz in Detroit (whose range is extremely limited; I've never been able to pick up WNUC-LP more than 2 miles from its TX site) and the WCHB translator @ 96.7 MHz are permitted to operate.

You are correct that WIOT in Toledo was successful in removing a co-channel translator that was using one of the big sticks along Eight Mile Road. That translator was interfering with WIOT across much of Wayne County, including places such as Wyandotte and Trenton where WIOT enjoyed significant listenership.
