Salem Promise Sale

William_Yeager said:
I knew someone who worked in sales at the Louisville cluster. She recently left to take a sales job outside of radio-at the time, she had been at Salem Louisville longer than any of the sales force and IIRC she's younger than me (I'm 26).

Interestingly enough, William, my secular job downsized salespeople with DECADES of experience. I don't think this is so uncommon, as people in sales are known to jump (or be pushed) from one opportunity to the next. A company generally wants to keep (or gain) its clients at the lowest expense to its bottom line. Only receptionists came and went so frequntly at one place I work, where the in-house rule was "Don't learn their names, don't get attached. They won't last." And generally, they really didn't.

RE: Questionable Ads, it is erroneous to say things like "Every snake oil salesman and dollar-a-holler scammer gets on the radio," at least at Salem. You haven't seen the memos instructing staff to "Send all calls from ______ directly to our Operations Manager," because a potential client's desired on-air content or product was unacceptable... despite money in hand.

To all those who have chided me on this board, please accept my most humble apology. It was NEVER my place to pull a splinter out of another's eye while the log was still firmly entrenched in my own. Salem was, in large part, very good to me. However, I must maintain that I do question some of their business practices. That being said, to all those who are employed by Salem and do enjoy the experience, I say congratulations!

For those, like myself, whose experience has unfortunately left a sour taste in their mouth, I will now humbly fall on my sword and declare defeat for my God is far greater than I shall ever be and it IS HIS responsibility and right to enact justice.

For my part, I am but a man and a sinful one at that. I stand down.

Surfer,

You're Salem's loss. Praying for you & expecting you to fill us in on the great things God has in store for you.

Peace :)

as I crank up the Kry's "Take My Hand and Walk"

I can't say this very well so please forgive me in advance but, thank you Idiot for your kinds words. As it stands now I'm working for a radio production company and loving it. I get all the fun of the business without the hassle of the sales departments. I'm just saddened by the way things go sometimes. Anyway, that's what I'm up to. ;D

I think it is interesting that the Salem AM stations in Jacksonville were bought by Stuart Epperson's other company (or interests--I am not sure how to properly describe his role other than, he is in charge). They have also bought the name, "The Promise" and are moving it to his other station, 88.1 along with a few of the people. They are changing 88.1 to all music, and moving all of the teaching/talk to the AMs that were also purchased. I believe the programming of WJGR has already been changed from conservative talk to all the preaching/teaching shows that had been on 88.1.

Jane, his wife.
