I think it means there could be quite a shake up at WRVI. With WAY FM here The River reallys needs to step it up a notch. I'd start with the on air (I hate to use the word) talent. A local morning show would be great. But, lets face it that station needs a makeover and that AJB with his SC squared, PCD & POG is too much. Everything is an acronym with that guy. How about B-A-D or P-U. If they dont shape up, it could be B-Y-E RVI and hello W-A-Y

I doubt Tim would leave Cox and jump on board a sinking ship. If anything Kymedia its a 2nd wind for Louisville. Did you work with Tim when you were in sales at salem?

I agree. If Salem had plans to sell Louisville why change management only to unload it 6 months down the road. Tim's too smart for that. Either way you slice it, thanks to dereg and clusters this medium is in ruins.

I think a local host on WGTK would be better for Salem than a local morning show on WRVI.

The minute Joe was cut from the WHAS lineup Salem should have snatched him up. Since they didn't when they could, I doubt they ever will.

Mark Thomas is a wonderful manager with a lot of "TALENT". He will pop back up. All things happen for a REASON!

Exactly. What this means for Salem is that any plans they may have had to sell Louisville have fallen by the wayside for the foreseeable future. If I was working over there I'd be breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Interesting to note on the Salem cluster. WFIA is what it is doing teaching programs, that audience will
grow and decline by the daily program content of the ministries. WRVI has a 1.6 12 + in the fall
arb, while WJIE has a 0.9 12+ in the most recent Arb. WGTK sits with a 2.2 12+ as Salem's highest
rated news talk station in the company. There are those in town who hate CC because he has
let some people go before. However he does a a good track record with ratings... If a station of
his didn't perform it's because nobody else could get it to perform. Right now these Salem stations don't look
too bad. Does WGTK beat WHAS, no, but based on what it does, and what it has to work with, it out
performs other News Talkers in Salem. As for WRVI it's a format that has alot fewer people listening,
but in that format it beats WJIE in the fall ARB. Not bad since WRVI has never ran outside marketing
and WJIE has been around alot longer with some outside marketing. As for Salem selling, right now every station
in the market everywhere is for sale for the right price. If Cox wanted to overpay for WHAS, they could have
the big 84 this year. Wouldn't that change everything here. If WRKA goes from 25,000 watts with their cp to
50,000 watts, that too will change the land scape. In the meantime Salem will keep on with their cluster as is,
unless somebody wants to over pay for a stick.

As i have heard with cc matthews he didn't do djx any favors and this is before kiss was here he took djx from number 3 in the market to number 6 and i heard clear channel got rid of him because he couldn't get results with kiss but to his defense i think what helped kiss out was radio one blowing up hot 104. I think radio one is the worst broadcasting company to ever exist in louisville. I still wish gtk would pick up Mr Elliott with a live call in show from noon till three. Get rid of dennis miller!!! Boring

according to the Winter Arbitron of 1999. WDJX was # 1 18-34 Women and WVEZ was
#2 25-54 persons in the market, so CC didn't deep six DJX because he went to Clear Channel.

Doug & Kim are okay. The guy that follows them is not bad. Fred North is pretty good and Andrew J Barbeau always sounds like he's having fun. Not a bad line up.

I bet WJIE makes more money than WRVI regardless of ratings.

Some folks are hired knowing and agreeing to be the 'turnover' manager.. They're on the block, just not an immediate thing.... Transition management is a tricky thing... ???

Then maybe we'll see one of those "Turnover Managers" show up at Clear Channel, Mainline or Cox.
Salem is here to stay. Watch & see.

PROjammer, You could be right... I just have an 'insider' at Salem who is 4/5ths the way up the ladder that says they are spinning off ALL makets under 30 in the next year or two... He's been with them for over ten years.. He may be wrong, but 'who knows'... Salem puts out a good product and the reaction at H'qtrs. is based on the 'crash' of mega-radio (private and public stock).... The main feedback I am getting is that they want to localize, as much as they can, but feel the bottom line prohibits it, to a point in their under 30 markets.. Some in the higher up places want it to be 'sell off everything under market #25'.... Of course, with any large entity, with many smaller chiefs, time will have to be the final teller of what's goin' down...

The way I see it: Salem has 4 stations in the market, they hire a new GM to run them. Then they spin off the ones that aren't performing, that is, the ones that don't generate an acceptable profit margin. They keep the one(s) that do. The GM still has a job.

Salem changed GM's in New York last week and I expect there will be a few more around the country.

With radio stocks suffering a slow death, as they are now, it may be difficult for Salem to get any buyers for their stations. So maybe the GM change is their last effort to make these stations work ?
